Job Description Summary The Department of English and Media Studies at Bentley University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in communication studies, to begin July 1, 2027. We are interested in candidates whose research incorporates humanistic, qualitative, and/or design research methodologies. The successful candidate will be able to teach existing courses such as Multimodal Communication, Introduction to Communication Studies, Introduction to Mass Communication, Intercultural Communication, and/or Public Speaking for Professional Success (at the undergraduate and/or graduate-level), as well as develop new courses to meet the needs of contemporary undergraduates. Tenure-track faculty teach a 2-2 load for their first three years and a 3-2 load for their final two years before applying for tenure. Standard teaching load for tenured faculty is 3-2, with the potential for additional course releases for exceptional creative/scholarly production. The English and Media Studies Department offers an array of courses in literature, film, communication, creative writing, and media production. We actively engage students through several innovative degree paths to complement students pursuing business-related professions, including majors in English, Creative Industries, and Film and Media and minors in Gender and Sexuality, Media Management, and Ethnic Studies. Serving as the hub for writing and media, the department also houses the Climate Creativity Lab, Writing Center, ESOL Center, and Film and Media Studies Lab. Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Communication or related field, or other terminal degree. ABD candidates will be considered. The successful hire will need to have terminal degree in hand by September 1, 2027. Preferred Qualifications: Candidates should have experience as the instructor of record for an introductory course in communication (e.g., public speaking or an introductory/gateway course in communication, media studies, or design). Candidates should also have one or more peer-reviewed scholarly publications or juried works. The grade range is based on market data and the scope of responsibilities. Final pay will depend on your experience, education, and other relevant qualifications. Salary Ranges (depending on rank, qualifications and experience):
