Description of Work The Division of Parks and Recreation is seeking a skilled Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician II to perform skilled small engine, automotive, and/or heavy equipment repair. Work includes the service, inspection, repair, rebuild and diagnosis of a diverse number of mechanical systems for a variety of gasoline, diesel, and alternative powered engines/equipment. Work ranges from inspection and service to highly complex mechanical systems analysis using advanced diagnostic instruments and software; recurring and non-recurring work such as electrical, suspension, brake system repair, and /or fitting and repairing more complex ancillary and specialized equipment. Conducting parts/systems failure analysis; and the calibration, adjustment and operation of engine analyzers. Routinely determine materials, techniques and tools to accomplish work assignments. Work assignments vary in complexity depending on the type of mechanical system and ancillary components/equipment. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Use and operate the various machines and instruments commonly found in an automotive and/or heavy equipment repair shop, as well as a variety of specialized equipment specific to the area of assignment.
  • Diagnose and repair various automotive, small engine, and/or heavy equipment systems.
  • Manage on-site inventory including parts, fuel, and lubrication commodities.

  • Knowledge of estimating parts and labor hours needed for all aspects equipment and vehicle repair.
  • Thorough understanding of vehicle and equipment repair.
  • Experience in the automotive mechanical or equipment repair trade or an equivalent vocation.
  • Computer proficiency with the ability to utilize Workday, Fiori and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment, driving dump trucks, trailering heavy equipment, driving and operating a rollback tow truck.
  • Experience in welding and metal fabrication. Position/Physical Requirements:
  • Typical work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, must be able to work evenings, holidays, and/or weekends when necessary. This schedule may vary and second shift may be needed.
  • Must have the ability to follow verbal and written project directions and to work independently as needed.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical work for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 100 pounds periodically and 50 pounds consistently with or without reasonable accommodation.
