Duties
- You will administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillation (AED) for a patient.
- You will collect initial hazardous materials response information from hazardous materials safety data sheets, United Nations/North American (UN/NA) identification numbers, or placards.
- You will inspect fire extinguishers to verify they are fully operational and meet all regulatory requirements.
- You will analyze the structural condition of a building to determine firefighting equipment and apparatus required to fight fire. Qualifications For the GS-06 position: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2) detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 3) controlling hazardous materials incidents; 4) performing basic and routine medical procedures and; 5) performing rescue operations. For the GS-07 position: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Identifying active and potential fire hazards and providing structural firefighting IAW the Job Performance Requirements of the current edition of NFPA 1001; 2) Employing hazard and risk assessment techniques to complete incident analysis and effectively mitigate hazardous materials emergencies at the Operations level; 3) Providing emergency medical care at the BLS level to the full range of medical and trauma patients including managing respiratory and cardiac emergencies to include performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bag-valve-mask resuscitation, and automatic external defibrillation (AED); 4) Performing driver/operator level maintenance and inspections and operating a variety of complex firefighting equipment including pumpers and/or aerial vehicles; and 5) Completing a variety of record keeping tasks using paper and computer based systems including patient care reports, equipment testing and maintenance records, NFIRS reports, vehicle and equipment inspection forms, pre-fire plans, etc. CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: For the GS-06 position: This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for this position: Firefighter I, Firefighter II and HAZMAT Technician. For the GS-07 position: This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for this position: Firefighter I, Firefighter
Ii Hazmat
Technician, and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) Basic. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached a copy of your transcript or certifications, you will be rated ineligible. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by HR within 30 calendar days after the EOD (i.e., start date). The selectee's inability to successfully pass; or refusal to conduct the test may result in: 1) the tentative or final job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process; or 2) subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment. You may be required to sign a "Drug Test Statement of Understanding" if you are selected for this position.
