Summary About the Position: The position is part-time (40 hours per pay period); Rotating Shifts; 12- Hours Shifts may include: 0645-1915/1845-0715; 8 hour shift may include: 0645-1515/1045-1915/1845-0315/2245-0715; nights/weekends/holidays

• rotations may change every 3-6 months (Hours may vary at commands discretion) This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Duties
• Assesses nursing needs and develops and implements a Plan of Care for each patient.
• Provides comprehensive professional nursing care to critically ill patients in an ICU.
• Responds decisively to life-threatening changes in patient condition, providing immediate and appropriate emergency measures.
• Facilitator to mediate complaints and concerns of patients, family members and staff, taking immediate action to resolve or refer to a higher authority.
• Recommends strategies to improve nursing unit organization and functions utilizing evidence-based practice.
• Plans, delegates, and directs nursing care, based on patient care requirements and staff skill levels.
• Functions as charge nurse of a particular shift on a recurring basis, assuming the responsibility for promoting quality, cost-effective nursing care.
• Respond to all emergencies during the shift and responsible for advanced cardiac life support code team (ACLS/PALS/NRP/STABLE) management until arrival of physician.
• Attendance at high-risk deliveries and Conducts Maternal-Fetal Assessment.
• Provide neonatal resuscitation.
• Neonatal and Adult Intravenous therapy.
• Management of peripheral and umbilical IV lines, administration medications, maintenance of CPAP, and nasal gastric tubes for specialized feedings.
• Assessment and care of premature and ill infants.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Intensive Care Unit): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Foreign Degree: Graduates of foreign nursing schools must have completed the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools Certification Program. The certification program consists of a credentials evaluation, the CGFNS Qualifying Exam, and evidence of passing one of the approved English Language Proficiency examinations. A copy of the CGFNS Certificate is required. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes 1) Providing comprehensive professional nursing care to critically ill patients in an Adult ICU; 2) Sets up, operates, administers, and monitors sophisticated technical equipment; 3) develop treatment plans; 4) provide verbal and written instructions to patients; and 5) Develops educational programs for families and staff.. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11) OR Defense Health Agency Nurse Experience Exemption: You are exempt from the one year specialized experience requirement if you were previously employed as a Nurse or Practical Nurse in the Department of War for at least one year, or are currently employed as a Nurse or Practical Nurse in the Department of War, AND after commencing work as a nurse or practical nurse in the Department of War obtained a bachelor's degree or graduate degree from an accredited professional nursing educational program. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
