Compensation The compensation target for this role is: $80,800 - $95,000 Job Summary -This position is for our Thursday-Saturday shift (7a-730p) The Production Manager leads day-to-day manufacturing execution and creates conditions for safe, high-quality, efficient production. This role partners closely with Line Managers and the Operations Systems Manager to achieve goals for safety, quality, throughput, cost, uptime, and work in progress. Through visible floor leadership, clear accountability, and continuous improvement, the Production Manager builds an engaged team and helps Purple deliver consistent results for customers. - Evaluate Mattress and Peak build plans to ensure the correct products are produced.
- Plan the most effective use of equipment and personnel to meet current and future production requirements based on sales volume and Kanban inventory levels.
- Assign work orders to the train schedule to support production flow.
- Partner with Line Managers to ensure L2L data is entered accurately and on time.
- Complete inventory moves as needed and audit HighJump production bins for accuracy.
- Use data to identify improvement opportunities and coordinate improvement efforts within the appropriate value stream.
- Review Line Manager attendance files daily for accuracy and policy compliance, and hold Line Managers accountable for reviewing Operator attendance files.
- Update the organizational chart weekly and report changes to Human Resources and Recruiting.
- Monitor quality and initiate actions to prevent product or process nonconformities.
- Ensure safety incidents are reported through Teams and escalated to Safety and senior leadership; report employee-relations or policy violations to Human Resources and senior leadership.
- Execute staffing plans and partner with Human Resources to recruit, select, and onboard employees.
- Facilitate the daily 8:15 production meeting for the assigned shift, reviewing goals and current-day issues with participating departments.
- Report throughput results and goals for assigned areas to senior leadership. Employee Engagement — 85%
- Be present one hour before the assigned shift begins to model expectations, assist Line Managers, and support the production plan.
- Lead, motivate, and train Line Managers to build teamwork and ownership of production results, processes, and committees.
- Support Line Managers in motivating and training Work Cell Leads and Operators to strengthen teamwork and ownership.
- Communicate senior leadership’s vision effectively to Line Managers, Work Cell Leads, and Operators, and pursue goals aligned with that vision.
- Apply and teach 5S principles to maintain a safe, organized work environment.
- Champion continuous improvement tools, processes, methods, ideas, and committees that move Purple toward its future state.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with Line Managers to build trust, set goals, and provide timely feedback.
- Participate in multiple daily Gemba walks and remain engaged across production lines to build trusted relationships with employees.
- Apply corrective action, discipline, recognition, and performance appraisal practices firmly, fairly, and consistently.
- Support the Operations Systems Manager in ensuring direct reports and the assigned shift follow 5S and L2L initiatives, complete checklists, perform operator equipment maintenance, and remain current on training.
- Support quality at every process step, surface problems, prevent nonconformities, and maintain a feedback loop for improvement ideas.
- Confirm proper shift changeovers and remain on the production floor until assigned-shift duties are complete.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned. What we’re looking for
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
- At least two years of experience managing a production line and team using Lean principles.
- Demonstrated success leading a large production team in a manufacturing environment.
- In-depth understanding of production principles, general plant operations, and methods for establishing and achieving production goals.
- Ability to make sound, independent decisions based on functional expertise, data, and experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and use production systems accurately. Even Better if...
- Lean Manufacturing certification or equivalent applied experience.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
- 5S Concepts certification. Physical Requirements Physical activities may occasionally include:
