A Day in the Life The Research & Development (R&D) Finance Center of Excellence (COE) provides financial leadership, analytics, and decision support across Medtronic’s R&D organizations. The team partners with R&D, business, and finance leaders to support investment decisions, portfolio management, resource allocation, forecasting, and long-range planning while promoting consistent financial practices and scalable capabilities across the enterprise. We’re working a minimum of 4 days a week onsite as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary. As a Principal Financial Analyst, you will serve as a strategic finance partner supporting R&D portfolios, programs, and enterprise initiatives. You will provide financial planning, forecasting, investment analysis, and decision support to help leaders evaluate priorities, allocate resources, and improve visibility into R&D performance and investments. Primary Responsibilities
  • Partner with R&D and Finance leadership to support portfolio, program, and investment decision-making.
  • Lead financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and long-range planning activities for assigned R&D organizations and portfolios.
  • Develop and maintain financial models supporting program assumptions, development timelines, resource requirements, milestones, and investment scenarios.
  • Analyze financial and operational data to identify risks, opportunities, trends, and performance drivers across R&D investments.
  • Provide scenario modeling and business insights to support resource allocation, investment choices, and portfolio prioritization decisions.
  • Deliver financial reporting, key performance indicators (KPIs), and analytics to improve visibility into R&D performance and investment outcomes.
  • Drive forecasting accuracy, variance analysis, governance activities, and process improvements that enhance financial transparency and decision support.
  • Collaborate across Finance and business functions to establish consistent financial standards, methodologies, reporting practices, and scalable capabilities. Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of finance or accounting experience OR advanced degree and 5+ years of finance or accounting experience.
  • Experience in financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, financial reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience developing financial models, scenario analyses, and long-range plans to support business decisions.
  • Experience partnering with business leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to support investment or resource allocation decisions. Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or other relevant professional certification.
  • Experience supporting R&D, product development, engineering, clinical, technology, or innovation-focused organizations.
  • Experience with portfolio management, investment analysis, resource planning, or large-scale R&D programs.
  • Experience within the medical device, healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated industries. PR) locations (USD):$110,400.00 - $165,600.00 This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
