Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, San Diego Sector, Mission Readiness Operations Division, Fleet Management Branch, located in Santee, CA. Learn more about CBP's mission, core values and careers at In this Transportation Specialist role, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security Individuals involved in serving as a Fleet Transportation Specialist (FTS) at a Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) to plan and perform a wide variety of administrative duties and program planning activities. This position starts at a salary of $57,641.00 (GS-07, Step 1) to $91,664.00 (GS-09, Step 10). Typical duties of this assignment include: Serving as the VMF point of contact and provides guidance for fleet-related programs, to include but not limited to, vehicle maintenance service interval, fuel, toll road accounts and utilization, environmental and/or hazardous waste, uniform contracts, and Home to-Work (HtW). Implementing and reinforcing standard operating procedures, internal controls, metrics, and training that ensure standardization and regulatory compliance. Planning, scheduling, and tracking preventive-maintenance, warranty, recall, and accident-repair action for assigned vehicles/assets. Assisting in conducting general inspections of all assigned vehicles and other fleet assets, and inspection of dispensers and fuel hoses. This position has an Individual Occupational Requirement. Education: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, or other fields related to the position. For additional information on the preemployment process, review the following link: Applicant Resources | CBP Careers Qualifications You qualify for this position if you meet the basic requirement listed above and possess the experience or substitution of education, if applicable, as described below: Experience: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Reviewing, inputting, modifying, and deleting vehicle records. Tracking and assisting Stations/Programs in completing vehicle accident reports through direct collaboration with management throughout the sector. Reviewing, recording, and compiling information related to fuel consumption, and procurement of fuel. Reporting repairs to appropriate management related to fuel storage, fuel pumps, and equipment located within the facility. Experience: You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Reviewing, recording, and compiling information related to vehicle assignment and use, mileage reports, preventive maintenance services, accident damage estimates, and other program data and inputs expenditures. Maintaining a computer inventory (Vehicle Reporting System) of all fleet vehicles, generators, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), trailers, and various equipment, including decommissioned vehicles. Responsible for all phases of asset property management, to include but not limited to, accepting and inspecting new vehicles (VIN, radio, fleet-card, and license-plate verification), processing SAP transfers for redistributions, coordinates de-installation of sensitive equipment, and oversee end-of-life disposals through General Services Administration (GSA) or auction channels.
