Job Summary

The Director, Operations for Alloy Surfaces Company (ASC) serves as the strategic operational leader, directing, managing, and leading manufacturing operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of production activities. Primary responsibilities include overseeing production, asset reliability, maintenance, and facilities functions; ensuring customer, quality, schedule, and financial objectives are achieved; and serving as the primary point of contact for site operational performance, business initiatives, and cross-functional activities. This position is responsible for developing and executing operational strategies, budgets, staffing plans, hiring plans, and capital improvement initiatives while driving operational excellence through Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and equipment reliability, in support of ASC’s business objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Operations, Production, Asset Reliability, Maintenance, and Facilities functions to support business objectives, customer requirements, and program execution
  • Direct and oversee day-to-day manufacturing operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of production activities while achieving safety, quality, delivery, cost, and production objectives
  • Responsible for the successful operation of activities of major significance to the organization; ensure production budgets, schedules, capacity, and performance standards are established and attained
  • Develop and employ strategies to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), manufacturing productivity, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency
  • Forecast labor requirements through capacity planning and recommend equipment and/or facility changes, production methods, or material handling procedures. Identify and implement capital equipment investments that enhance manufacturing capability and provide a positive return on investment
  • Manage labor, capital, equipment, and material resources efficiently to meet fluctuating demand while controlling operational costs
  • Lead Lean Manufacturing, Operational Excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost performance
  • Oversee inventory management and manufacturing capacity planning to support production schedules, customer demand, and financial objectives
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Program Management, Supply Chain, HSE, and other cross-functional teams to optimize manufacturing performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and support business growth
  • Build, develop, and lead a high-performing Operations organization through effective staffing, employee development, cross-training, performance management, and succession planning
  • Champion a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence while ensuring compliance with applicable government, regulatory, customer, and company requirements

Other Job Functions

  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, including but not limited to the Code of Conduct, U.S. Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, and the Chemring Operational Framework
  • Ensure the Group ethos of all employees going home safely at the end of their working day is adhered to

  • Comply with government and corporate laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Typically supervises managers of various functions under purview Requirements EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Operations Management or related field
  • Master’s degree or MBA is preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification highly desired EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing operations, preferably within a fully integrated design, engineering, manufacturing, and customer support environment
  • Experience with supporting the U.S. Government contracting activities (e.g., FARS, DFARS)
  • Experience overseeing HSE program compliance with OSHA requirements
  • Experience working with suppliers/vendors on development, pricing and inventory optimization
  • Proven experience applying Lean Manufacturing, 5S/6S, and Six Sigma methodologies to improve operational performance

Additional Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be eligible to obtain and/or maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance commensurate with the level of facility clearance
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, influencing, and organizational skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to apply sound judgment, initiative, and creativity to complex technical challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to lead innovation, drive continuous improvement, and implement effective operational solutions
  • Proven ability to scale operations and/or manage the manufacturing of new products from prototype to full rate production
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and coordinate activities of others, to take decisive action appropriate to the situation and business plan
  • Strong business and financial acumen with experience managing operating and capital budgets
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) methodologies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and inventory/warehouse management software
  • Risk identification, assessment, and mitigation
  • Knowledge of manufacturing resource planning (MRP/ERP) systems
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Physical and Other Requirements

Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, weighing up to 10 pounds occasionally and/or a negligible amount of weight frequently. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Use of computer.
