Summary This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent supports the OCJCS Public Affairs Office and as such, directly collaborates with fellow public affairs and administrative peers to include Office of the Secretary of Defense. This position directly supports the Special Assistant for Public Affairs, Deputy Special Assistant for Public Affairs, and the Executive Assistant as well as the entire OCJCS/PA team as needed. Duties As a Administrative Support Specialist (Public Affairs) at the GS-0301-9/11 some of your typical work assignments may include: Serves as an Administrative Support Specialist for the Joint Staff Public Affairs office, providing administrative management for the OCJCS Public Affairs Office, providing administrative support to the 20+ team of military and civilian personnel. Will exercise mature decision making to analyze and interpret research while providing solutions and measuring effectiveness, efficiency to problems or challenges. Responsible for receiving, reviewing, and rejecting/accepting invoices for goods and services as well as coordinating the procurement of office supplies through vendors and associated Joint Staff offices. Serves as records manager for the OCJCS Public Affairs Office, ensuring records created are managed and maintained within applicable guidelines. Develops and facilitates memoranda, letters, spreadsheets, and other official documentation in support of executive meetings, special projects, and maintenance of personnel and contact rosters. Qualifications You may qualify at the GS-11, if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service: Applies analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program and administrative management operations carried out by administrative or professional personnel, or substantive administrative support organizations; Recognizes priorities and the need to coordinate work with others and/or balance work assignments of administrative support positions; Utilizes office automation software (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint) and collaboration tools to accomplish duties in the most efficient manner; Adapts administrative processes, procedures, and systems of the organization and of the goals, priorities, policies to provide administrative support with minimal supervision and greater independence after on-the-job training to the OCJCS Public Affairs Office.

Or B.

GS-11 I have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree LL.M., if related.;

Or C.

You have some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and you have more than one year but less than two years of education as described in B. You have computed the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.) You may qualify at the GS-09, if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service: Applies analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program and administrative management operations carried out by administrative or professional personnel, or substantive administrative support organizations; Recognizes priorities and the need to coordinate work with others and/or balance work assignments of administrative support positions; Utilizes office automation software (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint) and collaboration tools to accomplish duties in the most efficient manner; Adapts administrative processes, procedures, and systems of the organization and of the goals, priorities, policies to provide administrative support with minimal supervision and greater independence after on-the-job training to the OCJCS Public Affairs Office.

GS-09 I have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

Or C.

You have some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and you have more than one year but less than two years of education as described in B. You have computed the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.)Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study. Foreign education may be qualifying if a private organization specializing in interpreting foreign education programs has deemed the foreign education equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program or a U.S. accredited college or university has given full credit for the foreign courses. Unofficial transcripts from U.S. Department of Education accredited colleges, universities, schools, or institutions listing your name, the name of the school, the date and degree awarded, and the list of classes and credits earned are acceptable for the application process. If selected, official transcripts are required before a firm job offer is made. A photocopy of your degree/diploma is not acceptable. When relying on foreign education, submit transcripts and a copy of the equivalency evaluation results letter with a course-by-course listing.
