  • Puerto Rico Site Lead What you will do Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this critical role, you will be a pivotal member of the Amgen Manufacturing Limited LLC (AML) site leadership team. AML is Amgen’s flagship manufacturing site and the largest in Amgen’s global manufacturing network. Located in Puerto Rico, AML employs over 3,000 employees and extended workforce personnel and operates across a 1.7 million square foot campus with fully integrated end-to-end manufacturing capabilities. AML's remit spans the full manufacturing value chain, including drug substance, drug product, quality, supply chain, engineering, process development, packaging, and distribution. As the organization continues to evolve its capabilities and portfolio, this leader will help shape the site's workforce and leadership agenda—building an inclusive, high-performing culture and strengthening the talent pipeline needed to deliver reliably in a highly regulated manufacturing environment. You will provide HR leadership for the site, taking the lead in being responsible for developing and overseeing execution of overall talent strategy, including the workforce plan, talent acquisition strategies, employee value proposition, and corporate talent programs. Additionally, you serve as the trusted advisor and coach to the site leadership team(s) in areas of HR strategy, culture, leadership, talent management, rewards, and change management. In addition to continuing to build Amgen’s talent base in Puerto Rico, you will also develop and implement innovative strategies to foster engagement and a strong culture in the midst of dynamic growth. This role reports to the Executive Director of HR, Manufacturing with dotted line to the Site Vice President (VP). Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance to a large team of HR professionals including HR business partners to drive value in the business; provide ongoing clarity, coaching, and opportunities for career development to facilitate continuous learning and growth.
  • Integration & Change Management: Drive integration initiatives and lead organizational change efforts to support business growth.
  • Strategic Advisor: Serve as a trusted strategic advisor and coach to the SLT in areas of HR Strategy, Culture / Engagement, Leadership, Talent Management, Rewards, Change Management.
  • Talent & Workforce Planning: Partner with site leadership to develop a robust talent base at the site including workforce plan, Talent Acquisition strategies, Employee Value Proposition, Corporate talent programs, and inclusion and belonging strategy.
  • Engagement & Culture: Implement innovative strategies to foster engagement and strong people centered culture amid dynamic growth.
  • Employee Relations & Compliance: Ensure compliance with local employment law and manage complex employee relations matters.
  • Community Engagement: Create and further grow trusted partnerships with local trade schools, universities, and government entities with a focus on workforce development initiatives; represent Amgen at external industry and academic engagements to bolster attraction of top talent and reputation in the market.
  • Employee Lifecycle: Oversee / direct implementation of HR processes such as: Onboarding, Performance Evaluation, Compensation Planning, Career Development, Talent Management, Coaching/Training people managers.
  • Global Alignment: Develop and drive initiatives and programs that meet local needs while remaining aligned with global strategies.
  • COE Partnership: Partner with COEs to develop and implement changes, working to anticipate, coordinate, and plan programs at the site – ensuring HR initiatives add value to site and Amgen’s business goals.
  • HR Network Leadership: Actively participate and contribute meaningfully to various Human Resources leadership networks whether external or internal to Amgen (e.g., country, region, or global).
  • Technical Expertise: Maintain expertise in leading HR trends and deliver practical and insightful thought leadership.
  • Travel: Occasional domestic and international travel may be expected, approximately 3–4 times per year per business needs. The Sr. Director HR professional we seek is a collaborative and strategic people leader with these qualifications. Basic qualifications: Doctorate degree and 5 years of Human Resources experience OR Master’s degree and 9 years of Human Resources experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 11 years of Human Resources experience In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 5 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above Beyond that, additional preferred qualifications are:
  • Academic degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or any other HR related field.
  • 15+ years of progressively complex / strategic experience in Human Resources for a large global or multinational organization.
  • Strategic HR business partner experience or other client-facing experience.
  • Extensive HR leadership experience in a multinational environment.
  • Experience leading teams including both individual contributors and managers.
  • Experience navigating complex employment environments, with the learning agility to quickly develop knowledge of Puerto Rico employment practices and market dynamics; prior Puerto Rico experience is a plus.
  • Experience leading HR in a highly regulated manufacturing or life sciences environment; GMP experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success introducing fresh thinking and innovative approaches to evolve HR capabilities and help position the organization for the future.
  • Experience supporting a large, complex site or country organization, with credibility across diverse workforce populations and business functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity and transformation, respectfully challenge the status quo, and translate enterprise strategy into practical and sustainable site-level action.
  • Track record of building workforce and leadership capability through strategic partnerships and innovative market-facing approaches.
  • Experience leading complex projects, initiatives and/or teams.
  • Strong analytical skills and understanding of how to use data to inform decisions.
  • Ability to balance a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and competing demands.
