The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is seeking a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track Open Rank Professor of Biomedical Science (Anatomy and Physiology) to join the College of Arts & Sciences beginning in January 2027. The successful candidate will provide engaging, student-centered instruction within UPIKE’s Biomedical Science program, with a primary focus on anatomy, physiology, and related biomedical sciences. This position supports students preparing for careers and advanced study in medicine and other health professions and requires a strong commitment to teaching excellence, student success, and the University’s mission as a school of opportunity. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise and interest in human anatomy and physiology, a passion for undergraduate teaching, and the ability to work collaboratively within a collegial academic environment. Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate biomedical science courses for majors and non-majors, including Anatomy and Physiology I and II.
  • Teach Neurobiology and additional courses aligned with the candidate’s area of expertise and departmental needs.
  • Provide instruction that supports students preparing for medical, health sciences, and other professional programs.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, evidence-based instruction using active-learning and innovative teaching strategies.
  • Teach courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats as needed.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students regarding academic progress, career preparation, and professional or graduate education.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and University service activities.
  • Assist with departmental initiatives, curriculum development, assessment, and other academic activities.
  • Maintain continued scholarly growth and professional development within the discipline.
  • Engage undergraduate students in research and scholarly activities when appropriate.
  • Support the University’s commitment to educational access and affordability, including the use and development of Open Educational Resources when appropriate.
  • Collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students to support student learning and the mission of the University.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Experience:
  • Terminal graduate degree in Biomedical Science, Anatomy, Physiology, or a closely related discipline required.
  • Applicants who are ABD or within one year of completing the required terminal degree will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and student learning.
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and other members of the University community.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
  • Commitment to educational access, innovative teaching, active learning, and student success.
  • Previous experience teaching biomedical science, anatomy, physiology, or related courses at the undergraduate level preferred.
  • Experience teaching Anatomy and Physiology I and II preferred.
  • Experience teaching students preparing for medical, health professions, or other graduate and professional programs preferred.
  • Experience utilizing active-learning strategies and innovative instructional approaches preferred.
  • Experience teaching in multiple delivery formats, including face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online courses preferred.
  • Experience involving undergraduate students in research or scholarly activities preferred. Application Requirements: Please submit the following materials with your application:
