Job Description: POLITICO is seeking an ambitious, experienced editor to help lead coverage of the technology industry’s increasingly consequential role in Washington. This editor will work with a team of enterprising reporters covering the intersection of technology, Congress and federal policy. The editor will help set the agenda for coverage of the biggest political and policy fights shaping the technology industry — from artificial intelligence and antitrust to data privacy, cryptocurrency, telecommunications, broadband and the growing influence of technology companies in Washington. The ideal candidate will be a sharp, deeply sourced editor with excellent news judgment and a sophisticated understanding of both technology and Washington politics. You’ll work closely with reporters to break news, develop ambitious enterprise and produce journalism that explains not only what Washington is doing, but who is driving it, who stands to benefit and what comes next. You’ll help guide coverage of the Trump administration’s technology agenda, congressional legislation and oversight, federal regulatory policy and the lobbying and political campaigns surrounding them. You’ll also help identify the people and power centers reshaping the relationship between Washington and Silicon Valley — including technology executives, companies, investors, lawmakers, regulators and advocacy groups. The editor will play a central role on POLITICO’s global technology team, working with journalists in California, Washington, London and Brussels to connect developments across the world’s major technology and political centers. The work will appear across POLITICO platforms, including politico.com, newsletters and POLITICO Pro, reaching an influential audience of policymakers, government officials, industry leaders and advocates. What You’ll Do

  • Set the editorial agenda for Washington technology policy coverage and help determine the stories that matter most to POLITICO’s audience.
  • Edit a team of reporters covering the Trump administration, Congress, federal agencies, technology policy and corporate influence.
  • Shape breaking news, scoops and high-impact enterprise that goes beyond basic coverage of industry and government moves.
  • Work with reporters to develop sources, sharpen story ideas, strengthen reporting and produce distinctive journalism.
  • Help reporters explain complex technology and policy debates clearly, quickly and authoritatively.
  • Identify connections between technology policy fights in Washington and developments in Silicon Valley, California, Europe and other global technology centers.
  • Collaborate with editors and reporters across POLITICO’s global technology team.
  • Edit stories for POLITICO’s homepage, newsletters and POLITICO Pro, with an eye toward both immediate news value and lasting impact.
  • Help develop and mentor reporters while contributing to the growth and evolution of POLITICO’s technology coverage. What You’ll Need
  • Significant experience as an editor, reporter or journalist covering technology, politics, policy, government or a related beat.
  • Deep knowledge of Washington politics and policymaking, with a strong understanding of the technology industry.
  • Exceptional news judgment and a demonstrated ability to identify and develop consequential stories.
  • A track record of editing or producing breaking news, scoops and ambitious enterprise.
  • A strong network of sources in Washington, technology, government and the private sector, or a demonstrated ability to build one.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a clean, clear and authoritative voice. COMPENSATION: $130,000
  • 150,000 Annual Base. The final salary offered will be based on factors including relevant experience, skills, and qualifications. We value our people. POLITICO illuminates the forces shaping global power. Since 2007, we have delivered intelligence that anticipates tomorrow's headlines, not reports on yesterday's news. As politics has increasingly become the defining force of our era, our work has never been more vital. Cabinet secretaries and Ministers start their mornings with our analysis. CEOs shape strategy around our reporting. Advocacy leaders rely on our insights to move policy. We deliver the straightforward facts and clear-eyed analysis they need to navigate the most complex political landscape of our lifetimes. Our 1,100+ publishing professionals across the world's key democratic capitals—Washington, Brussels, London, Paris, Berlin, Sacramento, and New York—form the world's premier politics and policy newsroom. We tell the story of how power really works by explaining who wields it and how they plan to exercise it, connecting dots others miss and delivering scoops from sources others don't even know exist. Innovation has always been a core tenet of our story. At launch, we bet that depth would trump scale, that talent would trump traffic, and that politics would become central to modern life. In 2011, we made another bet and launched POLITICO Pro to help decision-makers understand the business of government, transforming both how they shape government action and the business of journalism itself. These bets have made POLITICO the most successful digital news startup of its generation and the indispensable resource for leaders who shape the future. Today, we are a rarity in media: a growing, profitable, and sustainable news organization. POLITICO is a subsidiary of Axel Springer SE, a family-owned transatlantic media company headquartered in Berlin and New York. Axel Springer is dedicated to shaping the future of journalism in the free world, believing that a free and informed society is essential to democracy. The company’s guiding principles
