Principal Analyst, Global Upstream Transaction Research

About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 10 The Role : Principal Analyst, Global Upstream Transaction Research The Team : The position will contribute to developing market-leading insights into global upstream oil and gas transactions, corporate strategy, portfolio optimization, and asset valuations. The role will focus on monitoring upstream M&A activity, divestments, farm-ins/farm-outs, asset acquisitions, corporate transactions, and strategic portfolio moves undertaken by international oil companies, national oil companies, private equity investors, and independent E&P companies. Responsibilities and Impact: The role will support the development of transaction databases, analytical products, client presentations, and research publications covering global upstream deal activity. In addition, the position will help drive the adoption of AI-enabled research and analytical workflows to improve data quality, research productivity, and client insight generation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong interest in the upstream oil and gas sector, transaction analysis, valuation, and corporate strategy, combined with a willingness to leverage emerging AI and analytics tools to enhance research capabilities and deliver differentiated market intelligence. Market Intelligence & Transaction Research

• Track and analyze global upstream M&A transactions, asset divestments, farm-ins/farm-outs, and corporate acquisitions.
• Monitor company strategies, portfolio rationalization initiatives, and industry developments affecting transaction activity.
• Maintain and enhance upstream transaction and asset databases, ensuring data quality and accuracy. Research & Insight Development
• Conduct market research, asset screening, and valuation assessments to support client needs.
• Produce insight reports, presentations, and analytical content covering M&A trends, opportunities, and market developments.
• Identify key themes and emerging trends shaping global upstream investment activity. AI & Analytics Enablement
• Utilize AI-assisted research tools and automation techniques to improve data gathering, validation, and analysis workflows.
• Support the development of AI-enhanced research processes, databases, and analytical products.
• Contribute to analytical dashboards and visualization tools that help clients monitor transaction activity and market trends. Collaboration & Client Support
• Collaborate with research and product teams across global locations.
• Support client engagements, custom research projects, and subscription products.
• Work closely with commercial and product teams to enhance client value and support business growth. Requirements
• Experience in energy research, business analysis, consulting, investment analysis, or related fields.
• Sound understanding of the upstream oil and gas sector and industry value chain.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in business English.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience with data visualization and analytical tools such as Power BI or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with AI-enabled research, data analytics, and workflow automation tools.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
