Summary This position is located at Central Texas Veterans Health Care System for the Waco locations. The employee performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures and utilities. The duties are performed with in multiple trades. Duties Performs carpentry work in the construction, alteration, major repair, or modification of items and structures such as framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, interior and exterior trim, staircases, trusses and beams, where accuracy, spacing, andfit are essential and structural soundness or appearance are important. Installation andrepair work of drop ceiling grid and panels. Plans and completes projects from initial layout to final assembly or installation. Responsible for performing installations, modifications and repairs of plumbing fixturesin public buildings involving repairs that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing and sealing defective parts of the utility, supply and disposal systems. Works from building plans, blueprints, and sketches. Performs maintenance, repair, on surfaces such as sidewalks, steps, walls, curbs andramps. Builds and sets forms on projects. Mixes, pours, spreads, and levels cement and concrete. In repairing damaged areas, removes broken concrete and prepares subsurfaces. Plans work methods and sequences, lays-out work to be done, determinesmaterials to be used, selects proper tools, and accomplish the job in accordance withappropriate methods and accepted trade practices. Serves as a back-up for the assigned locksmith. Repairs and/or replaces a wide varietyof commercially manufactured locking devices on structures and equipment made of various wood and metal material to include: interior and exterior doors, fire doors, windows, medication rooms and narcotic cabinets, wall lockers. Responsible for set up, use, and/or operate welding equipment and welding processes. Must have skill in using jigs and fixtures. Uses common, journeyman skill andknowledge of the welding trade, and related trade processes such as brazing, solderingand/or flame cutting with rough tolerances to complete assigned work. Uses knowledgeof blueprint and sketch reading to prepare and set up parts/surfaces to be welded. Applied skill in using prepared clamps, fixtures or jigs to assemble materials or parts forwelding. Uses skill and practical knowledge and ability to position and control the torchor arc and feed welding rod or electrode to obtain weld bead size required, penetrationdesired and prevent burning base metal while welding common, similar metals of varying size, shape and thickness to loose tolerances. Applies skill and ability to weld inflat, vertical, or horizontal positions normally and infrequently in overhead positions. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: M-F 0730

  • 1600 Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD07984A Physical Requirements: The position will require moderate physical exertion, including frequent, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, and negotiating confined spaces. Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over, Moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds, Walking 1 hour, Standing 1 hour, Crawling 1-2 hours, Kneeling 1-2 hours, Repeated bending 1-2 hours, Climbing 1-2 hours, Climbing, use of legs and arms, Both legs required, Operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, Far vision correctable in one eye to 202/20 and to 20/40 in the other, Hearing Aid permitted. Employee will be required to work off of high ladders, scaffolds as occasionally necessary, as well as occasional heavy lifting and strenuous exertion. The employee is standing or walking most of the time and must be in very good overall physical condition. The incumbent will be fit tested for a respirator and is required to wear respiratory protection when working in contaminated areas, including asbestos-contaminated areas. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
