SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER

Summary You will serve as a Supervisory Firefighter in the Fire and Emergency Services department of

Nas Sigonella.

Duties

• You will detect the presence of potentially hazardous materials to maintain containment and control.
• You will collaborate with fire prevention or safety engineers in studying fire prevention problems.
• You will identify performance, progress, disciplinary, and training needs of crew members.
• You will lead a crew in routine maintenance of fire equipment and specialized tools used on assigned apparatus.
• You will respond to medical emergencies (e.g., sudden illness, accidental injuries, childbirth) to provide immediate medical attention and treatment. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Directing the operation of one or more firefighting vehicles and associated equipment of significant complexity to perform firefighting and rescue operations; 2) Applying firefighting techniques to manage fire hazards peculiar to structures with multiple stories or basements, vehicles, large stores or warehouses and hazardous materials; 3) Reviewing the design, construction, occupancy of buildings and installed fire suppression systems to conduct fire suppression pre-plans and emergency actions plans; 4) Employing hazardous materials emergency response procedures, equipment, identification and decontamination procedures; and 5) Controlling and extinguishing fires and conducting rescue operations in structural fire, hazardous material, confined space response, motor vehicle collision and other emergencies. Also must possess a valid, current license as an Emergency Medical Technician listed in a State or the National Registry (NREMT) to at least Basic Life Support level (EMT-B). These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Education No Basic Education Requirements Additional Information You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
