  • You will conduct research, analysis, modeling, testing and evaluation leading to the fielding of laser-based countermeasures systems to defeat EO/IR-guided threats.
  • You will contribute to written technical reports and give oral presentations of the methods and results of mathematical modeling.
  • You will perform behavior modeling of missile engagements using mathematical analysis tools such as MATLAB, government software written in C++ and Python.
  • You will conduct research on the applications of the electromagnetic and quantum phenomena as it applies to electronic warfare system development.
  • You will utilize and develop new features for a high-fidelity physics model of missile engagements. Qualifications This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: This position requires demonstrated experience in EO/IR phenomenology, scientific/mathematical analysis software (such as MATLAB), IR detection modeling techniques, atmospheric propagation modeling (such as MODTRAN) and procedures/methodology for the validation of physics-based computer models. In addition to the Selective Placement Factor and Basic Education requirements, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at the (GS-5-10) grade level or pay band (NP-02) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Supporting the analysis of EO/IR countermeasures in a variety of scenarios with high fidelity physics modeling and lower fidelity behavior-based modeling. 2) Contributing to mathematical models of weapon guidance, trajectories, seekers, and aerodynamics; 3) Analyzing and researching problems and design experiments to investigate problems; and 4) Communicating effectively both orally and in writing and to respond as required for proposal or report content. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education Basic RequirementApplicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess: Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. OR Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. In lieu of specialized experience the following may be substituted: Master's or equivalent graduate degree
