Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Laboratory Information Manager)

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Duties The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. Major duties include but are not limited to: Serve as the technical and subject matter expert for VistA and helps support Microsoft Office programs used by Laboratory personnel for the Medical Centers in Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island and CBOCs. Builds CDW templates for all areas of the laboratory and other external departments of the hospital. Interfaces all Laboratory equipment, responsible for VistA file set up and maintenance and Data Innovation interface set up for the Medical Centers in Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island and CBOCs. Serving as the liaison between I.T. and Bio-Medical Services and the Laboratory in the establishment and maintenance of interface connectivity. Builds and maintains all necessary file 60 tests for Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island, CBOCs and referral testing sites. Responsible for creation and maintenance of various other VistA files such as but not limited to the Etiology file 61.2, Lab Control Name file 62.3, Auto Instrument file 62.4, Lab Shipping Manifest 62.8, Cumulative file 64.7, Accession file 68, the Load/Worklist file 68.2 and Lab Order Entry file 69. Responsible for the creation and use of Fileman searches for data analysis and collection in the above listed files. Responsible for VistA/VBECS patch validations and documentation. Responsible for shipping manifest and LEDI creation/maintenance for Quest Diagnostics send out testing. Responsible for ePAS and PIV access requirements for new employees, name change, transfers, out-processing and those requiring assistance. Works with CPRS concerning lab related issues such as quick orders, order entry errors, new test placement, physician education on test ordering, etc. Daily trouble shoots PCs, thin clients, mouse, keyboard and printer issues for the Omaha Laboratory and is responsible for barcode printer set up and troubleshooting for Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island and all CBOCs. Monthly initiates and compiles LMIP data for transmission to Austin for Nebraska

Provides instruction to new Laboratory employees on how to use VistA, CPRS, Outlook and shared laboratory folders as part of the new employee orientation competency checklist. Responsible for purging old orders annually and resetting order numbers for NWIHCS (Nebraska and Iowa) at the end of each calendar year. (B) Knowledge of laboratory operations and their relationship to the organization. (C) Knowledge of laboratory computer systems sufficient to implement various laboratory associated packages and sustain operation of the laboratory system. (D) Knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements for laboratory functions.
