The Sustainability Officer supports the implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of the gold mining project's environmental, social and governance (ESG) programmes. The role serves as an important interface between the mine, employees, communities, government agencies and other stakeholders. The Sustainability Officer will assist in maintaining regulatory and social commitments, stakeholder engagement, community development, environmental and social monitoring, ESG reporting, grievance management, local-content initiatives and sustainability performance. Stakeholder & Community Engagement · Maintain regular engagement with communities within the project's area of influence. · Develop and maintain the stakeholder register and engagement database. · Organize community meetings, consultations and information sessions. · Document concerns, commitments and agreed actions. · Maintain relationships with Toshaos/Village Councils, regional authorities, government agencies and community organizations where applicable. · Support meaningful engagement with Indigenous Peoples and traditional land users. Grievance Management · Administer the project's community grievance mechanism. · Register, classify, investigate and track grievances through closure. · Coordinate responses with relevant departments. · Identify recurring issues and emerging social risks. · Prepare monthly grievance statistics and management reports. Community Development & Social Investment · Support development and implementation of community investment programmes covering education, health, livelihoods, infrastructure and capacity building. · Assist with community needs assessments. Monitor contractors and implementing partners. · Track budgets, beneficiaries and programme outcomes. · Ensure investments are aligned with identified community priorities rather than ad-hoc requests. Local Employment & Procurement · Work with Human Resources, Supply Chain and Community Relations to identify opportunities for local employment and procurement. · Maintain information on community businesses and suppliers. · Monitor local employment and procurement commitments. · Support training and capacity-building initiatives that improve community participation in project opportunities. Environmental & Social Compliance · Assist in monitoring compliance with environmental permits, ESIA commitments, management plans and applicable legislation. · Conduct field inspections and community/environmental observations. · Track corrective actions. · Assist with water, waste, biodiversity, rehabilitation and other monitoring programmes where assigned. · Maintain evidence required for regulatory inspections and audits. ESG & Sustainability Reporting · Collect, verify and maintain sustainability performance data. · Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual sustainability reports. · Maintain

dashboards. · Contribute to regulatory and corporate reporting and sustainability disclosures. · Ensure sustainability statistics are traceable and supported by appropriate documentation. Human Rights & Indigenous Peoples · Support implementation of company human-rights commitments. · Assist with culturally appropriate engagement with Indigenous communities. · Document traditional land-use and livelihood concerns where applicable. · Support consultation and consent processes required by applicable standards and law. · Escalate potential human-rights issues promptly. Cultural Heritage · Assist with cultural-heritage surveys and management programmes. · Maintain records of culturally sensitive areas. · Support implementation of Chance Find Procedures. · Coordinate with communities and technical personnel when cultural-heritage issues arise. Mine Closure & Rehabilitation · Support progressive rehabilitation and closure-planning activities from a social perspective. · Participate in discussions concerning post-mining land use. · Document community expectations regarding closure. · Assist with livelihood-transition and community resilience planning. Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental management, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Sociology, Social Sciences, Community Development, Geography, Natural Resource Management, Mining/Geology or a related discipline.
  • Preferably 3–5 years of relevant experience in mining, extractive industries, infrastructure, environmental/social management or community development. Experience working at a remote mine or construction project and with Indigenous or hinterland communities would be advantageous.
