General Summary and

PURPOSE: The Regional Life Safety Engineer provides system-wide inspection of rated assemblies and corrective maintenance of those assemblies. By evaluating existing conditions, interpreting Life Safety Code requirements, identifying compliance risks, and implementing practical solutions that support patient safety, operational continuity, and accreditation readiness. Working on a team of two Engineers based in Boise , the Regional Life Safety Engineer will spend time going to each of our four hospital locations (Boise, Nampa, Ontario, and Baker City), inspecting and working with facility personnel on any changes/improvements needed. The Regional Life Safety Engineer applies advanced technical knowledge, sound professional judgment, and a collaborative approach to assist engineering leadership in maintaining compliance with applicable codes, standards, and accreditation requirements. Education and

EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare facilities, commercial facilities, construction, building engineering, code compliance, fire protection, or a closely related technical field.
• Valid driver's license with the ability to travel routinely throughout Idaho and Oregon.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, life safety plans, specifications, technical manuals, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively with leaders, contractors, clinicians, and regulatory agencies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Meets Health System's Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations.
• Provides leadership for the planning, implementation, standardization, and continuous improvement of the Saint Alphonsus Life Safety Compliance Program.
• Establishes inspection methodologies, documentation standards, performance expectations, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Coordinates annual inspection and correction activities. Monitors program performance and adjusts schedules to ensure timely completion.
• Creates performance indicators, dashboards, and written reports that communicate inspection completion rates, regulatory deficiencies, corrective action status, and emerging compliance risks.
• Performs detailed evaluations in accordance with NFPA 80, organizational policies, and applicable regulatory requirements. Identifies deficiencies and performs corrective actions that support patient safety and accreditation readiness.
• Evaluates fire-rated walls, floors, ceilings, shafts, smoke barriers, and other fire-resistance-rated assemblies to verify compliance with Life Safety Code requirements. Documents deficiencies and collaborates with facility personnel to preserve compartmentation and reduce organizational risk.
• Inspects above-ceiling spaces during maintenance and construction activities to verify the integrity of fire and smoke barriers, firestopping systems, and other life safety features. Coordinates corrective actions when deficiencies or unapproved penetrations are identified.
• Conducts systematic compliance assessments of healthcare occupancies, support buildings, and renovation projects.
• Develops, maintains, and continuously updates inspection reports, compliance databases, supporting documentation, and electronic records.
• Creates, prioritizes, performs and corrective work orders resulting from inspections, surveys, and compliance assessments.
• Provides technical guidance regarding corrective actions beyond the capability of the inspection team and monitors progress until identified deficiencies are satisfactorily resolved.
• Evaluates architectural drawings, life safety plans, and project documents to identify potential compliance concerns before construction begins.
• Assists project teams in evaluating construction-related risks and implementing Interim Life Safety Measures when required. Monitors compliance with approved ILSM plans and recommends adjustments as project conditions change. Serves as a technical resource for project managers, architects, contractors, and engineering leadership throughout planning, design, construction, and project closeout. Helps identify compliance risks early and recommends solutions that protect the healthcare environment while supporting successful project delivery.
