Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator)

Summary About the Position: A Materials Handler (Motor vehicle/Forklift operator) within the Logistics Division. This role manages storage, distribution, and movement for key commodity areas, including medical supplies, quick supply center items, linen services, property book equipment, furniture, medical gases, and medical hazardous waste. Located at Guthrie Army Health Clinics

• Fort Drum, NY. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Duties
• Responsible for movement of stock and maintenance of stock level inventories.
• Ensure the safe receipt, storage, and movement of hazardous and toxic materials in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.
• Receive and unload a variety of items from many different sources.
• Operate equipment such as hand trucks, forklifts, dollies, and 22,000 pound trucks in the pickup and delivery of supply items.
• Perform Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) as required.
• Prepare inventory and production reports. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element applicants should document experience in the following: Identifying and/or examining hazardous or toxic medical materials; receiving, storing, issuing, shipping and/or inspecting equipment; receiving and/or accounting for all shipments; conducting observations and inspections of materials and substances in accordance with regulations; and unloading a variety of items using material handling equipment such as hand trucks, dollies, forklift and trucks
• Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: Often stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time; bends, stoops, and works in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries items that weigh up to eight kilograms (70 pounds). Heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment with assistance from other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. When working in hazardous materials areas, may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
