About Millboard Millboard is the premium composite decking and cladding manufacturer of choice. “Live. Life. Outside.” is more than a tagline — it is the experience Millboard wants every customer to have. The business sells through a network of distributors, contractors and architects, supported by a growing US sales team based in Minneapolis. Millboard is a family-owned business that thinks in decades, not quarters. Its EPIC values guide how it works with its people and its customers: Empowerment, Performance, Integrity and Care. The Opportunity This is a field-based, trade-facing role for someone who wants to build and own a network rather than manage one from behind a desk. The Business Development Manager's mission is to drive sustainable commercial growth by building demand through distributors, contractors, architects and other key trade partners, and converting that demand into profitable, lasting business relationships. The role blends market development, specification influence and relationship management, building Millboard's presence and preference across the full customer journey — from architect and specifier through to distributor, contractor, installer and homeowner. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, requiring someone who is self-driven, comfortable working independently across a broad and varied trade network, and willing to travel regularly, including overnight, across the territory. The postholder is supported by marketing, lead generation and technical resources both domestically and from UK Head Office. Must-Have ● Extensive experience in a technical, trade-facing, specification or business development role within the construction or building materials sector. ● Previous experience of face-to-face selling and presenting. ● Hands-on capability and confidence delivering technical demonstrations. ● Strong coaching, communication and relationship-building skills. ● Commercial awareness and the ability to identify sales opportunities. ● The presence to engage architects, designers and high-end builders with confidence. ● Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly, including overnight stays. Strong Advantage ● An existing network within the US building materials, decking or cladding sector. ● Previous experience working with distributors and builders' merchants. ● Previous experience in specification sales. ● Practical knowledge and understanding of construction processes. ● Familiarity with HubSpot or comparable CRM platforms.
