Summary About the Position: Serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Technical Expert to the Chief Safety and Occupational Health, Commander's staff, Division, Branch, and Field managers. • Develop and administer the Safety and Occupational Health Program instructions and directivesto formulate policy, establish objectives and provide procedural guidance.
• Investigate and analyze accidents and incidents causing injury or property damage and all hazardous conditions that may cause serious injury or death
• Review contractor’s Accident Prevention Plans to ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1, 29 CFR1910 and 1926, and all applicable National Consensus Standards.
• Provide technical expertise in the application of safety and health standards and sound knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of Safety and Occupational Health.
• Provide guidance and assistance for all Federal safety and health regulations and ensures compliance with OSHA and DOD hazardous materials storage and handling requirements. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.conducting safety and health inspections to identify and mitigate hazards; 2. reviewing accident prevention plans to ensure compliance with safety standards; and 3. providing training on safety and occupational health topics such as fall protection, confined space entry, or hazardous energy control. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11 or above). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
