Summary About the Position: This position is located within the Nutritional Medicine Flight at David Grant Medical Center on Travis Air Force Base, California. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes. Duties
- Performs a wide range of ordering and receiving, including verifying shipments and handling discrepancies for subsistence and other supplies in a commercial kitchen.
- Manages the storage of medical, non-medical, and office supplies by stacking, palletizing, and rotating items using a first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory system.
- Maintains records and documentation by using computer systems to input data, track inventory levels, and manage purchasing accounts for various supplies.
- Issues and delivers subsistence, medical, and office items by assembling requested supplies and ensuring all required paperwork is accurately completed.
- Conducts and assists with weekly and monthly inventories to ensure accuracy and helps resolve any discrepancies found. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Basic Requirements for Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator) WG-6907-05: Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Materials Handler (MVO) without more than normal supervision. I work independently and liaise with prime vendors to order subsistence and supply items, and receive, store using first in, first out procedures, and issue items in a kitchen warehouse. I am able to use an electronic database to maintain kitchen inventory for a dining facility and inpatient hospital, set PAR levels, and comply with monthly disinterested inventory requirements.
- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Personnel are often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. Most tasks require quick hand and arm movements. Workers continually handle, carry, or lift items and/or bundles that weigh up to 45 pounds; however, in receiving and shipping, occasional lifting of bulk bundles weighing over 50 pounds is required. Dexterously move, position, or operate wheeled carts or non-mechanical weight handling equipment independently or with assistance from other workers. WORKING CONDITION: Workers perform duties inside and/or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted and/or in walk-in refrigerators and freezers. Personnel are exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock while working in a commercial kitchen area. They may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and solvents. When working in hazardous materials areas, they may be subject to exposure from chemical fumes. Work may require wearing protective clothing such as steel-toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, gowns, hairnets, beard nets, protective cold weather clothing or aprons.
