We pride ourselves in our artists’ talent and dedication to producing world-class visual effects. Barnstorm is headquartered in Los Angeles with studio locations in Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto,New York, Atlanta and London. Who You Are You are a senior visualization professional with a strong cinematic eye and deep technical understanding of the VFX pipeline, spanning previs, postvis, and layout. With 7-10+ years of experience on feature film, episodic TV, or high-end streaming projects, you are comfortable guiding sequences from early concept through post-production visualization. You are both a creative leader and a hands-on problem solver, able to step in where needed– whether refining camera language in previs, supervising layout execution, or supporting matchmove/tracking when production demands it. You thrive in collaborative environments, communicate clearly with creative and technical stakeholders, and balance storytelling goals with real-world production constraints. You enjoy mentoring artists, shaping workflows, and working closely with Directors, VFX Supervisors, Production, Editorial, and other departments to ensure visualization work is clear, accurate, and production-ready. What You’ll Do

  • Supervise previs, postvis, and layout on assigned projects, ensuring sequences are cinematic, technically sound, and aligned with creative and production needs.
  • Translate scripts, storyboards, editorial cuts, and creative notes into clear visualization that supports planning, shooting, and post-production decision-making.
  • Oversee camera blocking, shot composition, staging, timing, and continuity across previs, layout, and postvis.
  • Collaborate closely with Directors, VFX Supervisors, Production, Editorial, and CG departments to ensure visualization integrates seamlessly into the broader VFX pipeline.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and constructive feedback to previs, layout, and visualization artists, maintaining a high bar for quality and clarity.
  • Support or oversee matchmove and tracking tasks as needed, including reviewing solves, troubleshooting problem shots, or stepping in hands-on when required.
  • Manage schedules, priorities, and deliverables for visualization-related work; identify risks early and propose practical solutions.
  • Participate in client and internal reviews, confidently presenting creative intent, technical decisions, and alternatives.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of Barnstorm’s visualization, layout, and postvis workflows and tools. What You Bring
  • 7-10+ years of experience across previs, postvis, layout, animation, or visualization on feature film, episodic TV, game cinematics, or high-end VFX projects.
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of visual storytelling, camera language, shot design, staging, scale, and pacing.
  • Ability to maintain creative continuity from early previs through final layout and postvis.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Autodesk Maya.
  • Solid understanding of layout, camera workflows, and scene organization.
  • Working knowledge of matchmove and tracking concepts and tools (ex: PFTrack or similar).
  • Familiarity with Nuke/compositing, editorial workflows, real-time engines (Unreal/Unity), motion capture cleanup, or virtual production is a plus.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and support artists under tight deadlines.
  • Clear, confident communicator with both creative and technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working directly with clients and senior production leadership.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Flexible and eager to adapt to evolving production needs, tools, and technologies.
  • Experience with ShotGrid, Unreal Sequencer, Houdini, Blender, or techvis.
  • Background in complex, VFX-heavy sequences or hybrid live-action/VFX workflows.
  • Exposure to virtual production, immersive content, or game cinematics.
