Job Posting Template St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking an Information Systems Technician for our well-established Utility Department whose headquarters are located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida. Employees work in a team-oriented environment in a variety of divisions with two common goals in mind: to provide the best services to our citizens and to be the best public utility in North Florida. This position is responsible for performing assigned Geographic Information System functions in support of department operations. The work consists of varied GIS analysis duties. Frequent technology updates contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to complete assigned GIS functions and provide support for the GIS database operations of the County government. Success in this position contributes to the maintenance of accurate and completed GIS data. Essential Responsibilities
- Interprets and performs basic spatial analysis on GIS and CMMS data to produce maps, reports, dashboards and other products.
- Coordinates with various county departments to exchange GIS data.
- Follows quality assurance and quality control procedures to ensure accurate GIS and CMMS data.
- Digitizes GIS features and geo-rectified images, from construction drawings, as-built plans and record drawings to keep the GIS utility database current.
- Develops and maintains GIS data layers in support of the utilities
- Designs, creates, and provides hard copy and digital maps in a variety of formats.
- Collect data to improve asset information including positional accuracy of utility assets using GPS devices and mobile devices.
- Creates, develops, administers, and maintains the Utility’s spatial data library to support the Asset Management system.
- Configures and creates GIS web maps and Apps using ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS online.
- Reviews and verifies data in GIS and CMMS using tools available.
- Full-time presence on the job.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a related course of study to the occupational field and one year of related work experience.
- Completion of County training course work required under the Utility Information Systems Training Program in the assigned timeframe or demonstration of equivalent training and proficiency. Certification of this training is a requirement which is obtained by achieving a passing score of seventy percent (70% percent) or higher on the Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA) assessment at the end of the training program.
- Possession of specific additional certifications/endorsements/licenses as outlined in the Progression Through Training Program Manual may qualify for additional incentive pay.
- Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
- Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to serve others.
- Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
- Must be able to operate a computer.

- Knowledge of trends in GIS, CMMS, and Data Analytic technology.
- Knowledge of data management principles.

- Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports.
- Skills in oral and written communication.
Environmental Demands
- Working Conditions may include some exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, garages, etc.), extreme noises, odors, heights and/or dust.
