Job Description The University of Nevada, Reno Extension is seeking a customer-focused and technically skilled IT Technician 2 to provide frontline technology support for Extension faculty and staff across Northern Nevada. In this role, you will help ensure employees have the technology and support they need to successfully deliver educational programs, research, and community outreach throughout the state. From troubleshooting computer and software issues to deploying new equipment and supporting classroom technology, you'll play an important role in keeping Extension operations running smoothly. About the Position Reporting to the IT Administrator, the IT Technician 2 provides technical support and technology services to Extension faculty and staff. The position assists users with hardware, software, workstation, peripheral, printer, and connectivity issues; deploys and maintains technology equipment; supports meeting and classroom technology; maintains inventory and asset records; and participates in technology projects and operational initiatives. The role requires strong customer service skills, technical troubleshooting abilities, and the ability to communicate effectively with users of varying technical backgrounds. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for computer hardware, software, printers, peripherals, and workstation connectivity issues.
  • Configure, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot computers and technology equipment used throughout Extension.
  • Support classroom, conference room, and meeting technology to ensure a positive user experience.
  • Maintain technology inventory records, asset tracking systems, and service documentation.
  • Participate in technology projects, equipment upgrades, software implementations, and operational initiatives. Essential Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent and three years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals, one year of which must have included IT work experience in a user support role; OR
  • One year of relevant experience as an IT Technician I in Nevada State service; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license within 30 days of appointment. This position requires candidates to complete a fingerprinting/background check. Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates with following experience are encouraged to apply:
  • Experience providing desktop or help desk support in a professional environment
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Office 365 and Windows-based workstations
  • Experience deploying and configuring computers, printers, and peripheral devices
  • Experience maintaining technology inventory and asset tracking systems
  • Strong customer service and end-user support skills
  • Experience supporting classroom, training, or conference room technology
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to individuals with varying levels of technical expertise Schedule and Travel This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position with a typical work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., this is subject to change based on operational needs. Travel between Extension offices and program locations may be required to install, maintain, or troubleshoot technology equipment. University vehicles may be available for business travel upon completion of required driver authorization and training requirements. Employees who use a personal vehicle for approved business travel may be eligible for mileage reimbursement in accordance with University and State policies. Compensation Grade Grade 28 (Entry, Step 01 $23.49/hr) In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code.
