Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Principal-level strategic leader to define and orchestrate the energy and water regulatory and community strategy across the Asia-Pacific region. This is a high-visibility role that operates at the intersection of regulatory policy, energy markets, and community engagement, requiring industry expertise to shape the environment in which AWS deploys critical infrastructure at scale. You will orchestrate regulatory and community strategy across interconnected pillars: energy and water regulatory strategy that informs advocacy and prepares organizations for changing policy landscapes; and community strategy that builds social license to operate and positions AWS as a responsible, transparent infrastructure partner. You will work closely with Public Policy teams and will serve as the external face of AWS energy and water infrastructure in APAC, representing the organization at industry conferences, in media engagements, and before regulatory forums. Key job responsibilities
- Regulatory Strategy: Own the APAC energy, water, and sustainability regulatory strategy; monitor and forecast policy changes across markets, and proactively shape frameworks before they crystallize.
- Advocacy Direction: Set the strategic direction that informs Public Policy priorities; providing the technical analysis, impact assessments, and positions that determine where and how AWS engages regulators and industry bodies.
- Regulatory Readiness: Prepare internal teams to anticipate and respond to changing regulations, translating regulatory risk into practical action.
- Community Strategy & Social License: Own a proactive community engagement framework, treating social license as a critical path for infrastructure delivery, and mitigate sentiment risk through transparent messaging on sustainability, clean energy, and water stewardship Basic qualifications
- Experience dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering measurable results in an agile environment
- Experience communicating and presenting to senior leadership
- 10+ years of experience in energy, water, utilities, infrastructure, regulatory affairs, industry strategy, or related fields
- Experience working with external stakeholders such as regulators, government agencies, or industry bodies in one of the markets in Asia Pacific region
- Track record of public speaking, conference presentations, or media engagement in energy, water, or sustainability
- Comfortable representing the organization in external settings, such as industry events or public forums Preferred qualifications
- Experience developing and executing regulatory or stakeholder engagement strategies across multiple Asia Pacific markets
- Background in data center infrastructure, cloud computing, or large-scale technology infrastructure
- Deep technical knowledge of energy systems (grid operations, power procurement, renewable energy) and/or water infrastructure (treatment, supply, licensing, recycling)
- Experience engaging with industry associations, advisory boards, or equivalent industry bodies
- Experience developing community engagement strategies and obtaining social license for large infrastructure projects
- Experience building coalitions across industry, government, community, and academic stakeholders
- Master's degree, MBA, or equivalent in Energy Policy, Engineering, Environmental Management, Business, or related field Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
