- Development The Donor Engagement and Communications Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating a comprehensive individual giving program that incorporates cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts for the Annual Fund. This position is responsible for increasing participation from individual donors who give up to $5,000 annually, resulting in long-term financial growth for the organization and plays a pivotal role in advancing GMHC’s fundraising strategy through the planning and execution of integrated direct mail and digital marketing campaigns. With a dotted line to the Communications Team, this position also contributes to GMHC’s broad content needs. The primary focus is fundraising, but the right candidate brings a writing range that serves both departments. With a deep understanding of donor behavior, giving trends, and persuasive messaging, this role oversees all campaign touchpoints—from email sequences and print appeals to donor journeys and segmentation. Strong writing and editorial judgment are essential, as this person moves fluidly between fundraising copy and organizational content ensuring both reflect GMHC’s voice and mission. The role sits within the Development Team and close collaboration with the Communications Team throughout. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in fundraising communications, campaign management, and digital engagement, with demonstrated success in converting audience interest into financial support. Requirements Annual Fund Management & Execution
- Project manage and execute comprehensive direct mail and digital fundraising and marketing campaigns that drive supporter acquisition, engagement, retention, and growth including monthly and lapsed donors, resulting in revenue from core donors
- Create efficient, scalable campaign workflows that maximize reach while optimizing cost-effectiveness
- Manage multiple print projects and vendors simultaneously, ensuring quality control, timeline adherence, and budget compliance
- Coordinate campaign timelines, production schedules, and delivery logistics across various channels and within development and communications teams
- Assists with and attends Development events as needed, including AIDS Walk NY, Annual Cabaret, donor receptions, and more Digital Marketing & Lead Conversion
- Demonstrate proficiency in email marketing platforms to design, deploy, and optimize email campaigns
- Convert digital leads to expand our supporter base and improve conversion rates
- Develop and maintain automated email sequences, segmentation workflows, and A/B testing protocols
- Monitor campaign performance metrics and provide actionable insights for continuous improvement Content Writing & Editorial Support
- Write and contribute to the organization’s newsletter, ensuring content reflects GMHC’s voice, mission, and current priorities
- Draft articles, program impact stories, and editorial content that advance organizational storytelling across channels
- Write and maintain website copy in collaboration with the Communications team, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and brand alignment
- Support event recaps and promotional content in partnership with Communications Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely within the Development Team to align fundraising goals with delivery strategies to support raising unrestricted revenue
- Collaborate with Communications team to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment confirming campaign assets are deployed and integrated across all platforms
- Acts as a collaborative partner in developing strategies for sharing donor testimonials; performs outreach for donor testimonials and builds assets for a variety of platforms.
- Coordinate with external vendors, printers, and service providers to ensure project success
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to planning work as well as annual budgeting and reporting
- Participate in strategic planning sessions and provide insights on supporter engagement trends
- Bring the Development and Communications teams together regularly to review data and inform strategies, decisions, and planning
- Partner with the Events Team to leverage existing events to better engage core and acquire new donors
- Facilitate cross functional collaboration across the organization to advance the mission of

Special Skills and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree, preferred, and a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of directly related experience in fundraising, marketing, communications, business or related field, preferably in a nonprofit environment or an equivalent education and work experience which would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
- Demonstrated knowledge of fundamental fundraising principles and practices Proven experience in successfully managing teams of staff and volunteers to achieve project deliverables
- Extremely goal–oriented with demonstrated project management skills
- Ability to take initiative and use independent judgment within established policy and procedural guidelines
- Excellent strategic writing skills for a variety of formats

- Authentic passion for GMHC's mission and the communities we serve. Education and Certification
- Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent professional experience. Technical Skills
- Knowledge in CRM systems, Every Action is a plus
- Microsoft Office Suite / Google Workspace
- Project management tools (Asana or equivalent)
- Familiarity with content management systems and email platforms is a plus
- Ability to learn new business software programs as needed. Work Environment and Schedule
- Hybrid role with regular on-site presence for meetings and key events.
- Flexibility to work non-traditional hours during campaigns or events.
- Participation in AIDS Walk NY is mandatory for all staff. Physical Demands While carrying out the responsibilities of this role:
