Summary About the Position: This position is located at General Leonard Wood Community Hospital in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. • Conduct workplace surveys to recognize, evaluate, and control environmental stresses arising in or from a variety of workplace activities.
• Assist installation personnel in the formulation of standard operating procedures related to the Industrial Health function of the Occupational Safety and Health Program.
• Delegate mission tasks appropriately, based on priorities, skills of employees, and difficulty of the assignment.
• Conduct periodic surveys of working conditions to determine the nature and magnitude of hazardous exposures and the effectiveness of existing control measures.
• Prepare various Industrial Hygiene reports such as the program status report.
• Determine the need for technical support from other agencies, laboratories, and contractors. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Industrial Hygienist: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technicology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. OR Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting comprehensive industrial hygiene surveys and audits; interpreting and advising on occupational health hazards and regulatory compliance; evaluating plans and processes to recommend exposure controls across work environments; and supervising a team of industrial hygiene personnel (such as assigning work, delivering training, reviewing completed tasks, managing performance, addressing personnel matters, and ensuring training). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
