Job Title: Polysomnographer/Respiratory Therapist Department: Respiratory Services Location: St. Lawrence Hospital – Massena Hospital Main, 1 Hospital Drive, Massena, NY 13662 Hours Per Week: 36 Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 7p
- 7a, No weekend or on-call SUMMARY: Responsible for performing comprehensive sleep studies to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, and related conditions. This role involves the setup, monitoring, and documentation of overnight polysomnographic recordings, as well as ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the testing process. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Initiate and perform all polysomnographic recordings.
- Perform a comprehensive patient assessment, identify patient needs and administer indicated/ ordered therapy in accordance with department policies and AASM standards of practice.
- Identifies and responds to patient conditions to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Maintain quality records and suggest improvement opportunities.
- Identify and respond to opportunities for education to patients, family, staff, and other health care providers.
- Perform discharge planning and documentation to provide discharge instructions and maintain post-discharge continuity of care.
- Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- NYS Respiratory Therapist license
Or Nys
Respiratory Therapy Technician (RTT) license AND
- Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists registry within 1 year of hire date
- Associates degree in Respiratory Care or equivalent certificate
- AHA Basic Life Support within 3 months of hire date. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 2 years relevant experience UNION: CSEA (MH) Note: Not all per diem roles are union eligible EDUCATION: LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS: PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Moderate
- Clinical
- Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements. For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements. PAY RANGE: $36.13 - $53.60 The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
