Position Summary
The Assisted Living Unit Manager provides leadership and day-to-day oversight for an assigned area of our Assisted Living community, helping ensure residents receive high-quality, person-centered care in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment. Working closely with the community’s nursing and leadership teams, the Area Unit Manager oversees resident care and services, supports and supervises care team members, coordinates with residents and families, and helps ensure operations are consistent with community policies, care plans, and applicable regulatory requirements. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who enjoys building relationships with residents and families, developing team members, and maintaining high standards of care and service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of resident care and services within the assigned Assisted Living area.
- Supervise, support, and provide direction to care team members, promoting accountability, teamwork, and consistent delivery of quality care.
- Coordinate staff assignments and help ensure appropriate coverage based on resident needs and operational requirements.
- Monitor resident needs, changes in condition, and overall well-being, ensuring concerns are communicated and addressed appropriately.
- Participate in resident assessments, service planning, and ongoing review of resident needs in collaboration with the nursing and interdisciplinary teams.
- Help ensure resident services are delivered according to individualized care/service plans and resident preferences.
- Maintain open, professional communication with residents and families and assist in addressing questions, concerns, and service needs.
- Review resident documentation for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with the care and services being provided.
- Coordinate with nursing, community leadership, and other departments to support continuity of care and an exceptional resident experience.
- Ensure necessary resident-care supplies and equipment are available within the assigned area and communicate additional needs as appropriate.
- Coach, mentor, and support team members while reinforcing community standards, policies, and expectations.
- Promote resident dignity, independence, privacy, choice, and individual rights in all aspects of service delivery.
- Support compliance with applicable state and local Assisted Living requirements, community policies, infection prevention practices, and safety standards.
- Participate in staff education, training, quality improvement initiatives, and emergency preparedness activities.
- Provide direct resident care or licensed nursing support when appropriate and within the scope of the position, licensure, and community needs.
- Perform additional related responsibilities as assigned by community leadership. Requirements
Candidate Qualifications
Education and Certifications:
- Nursing degree from an accredited college or university.
- Current and unrestricted LPN/LVN license, as applicable to the position and state requirements.
- Current CPR certification.
- Must meet all applicable state requirements for professional licensure and certification. Experience, Competencies, and Skills:
- At least two (2) years of experience providing direct care in assisted living, senior living, long-term care, geriatrics, or a related healthcare setting preferred.
- Previous leadership, supervisory, or nursing management experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and support care team members while promoting a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Strong resident-centered approach with a commitment to dignity, independence, choice, and quality of life.
- Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to changes in resident condition and communicate concerns to the appropriate clinical team members.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic resident-care environment.
- Sound judgment and ability to make appropriate independent decisions within the scope of the role.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and tactfully with residents, families, team members, healthcare providers, and community leadership.
- Strong listening, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to navigate electronic health record or resident-care documentation systems.
- Knowledge of infection prevention, resident safety, confidentiality, and applicable Assisted Living care standards.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with nursing, operations, and other community departments.
- Flexibility to work beyond regularly scheduled hours, including weekends and holidays, when community needs require.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements associated with resident care and supervision, with or without reasonable accommodation.
