Deadline to Apply: 4:30PM on Wednesday, October 7th, 2026 Summary/Purpose Under the direction of the Safety & Training Manager, the Safety & Training Coordinator is responsible for ensuring a safe work environment and, in coordination with department heads, providing the training necessary for each individual to perform at optimum levels; is responsible for maintaining all safety and job training records and reports to meet regulatory requirements. Typical Duties and Responsibilities The following are the typical duties of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties and may include other duties as assigned. The scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of NAEC. All employees are expected to work in a safe manner and follow all safety rules and regulations at all times. This document does not create an employment contract, implied or otherwise, other than an “at will” employment relationship. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring a safe work environment and providing the training necessary for each individual to perform at an optimum level.
  • Assisting with maintaining the NRECA Safety Accreditation Program.
  • Planning, preparing, and presenting safety programs to employees, except as where practical to utilize other professional services, in which case they shall be responsible for all necessary arrangements.
  • Advising and assisting NAEC and NEXT marketing personnel with Safety Demonstrations. Conducting or supervising public presentations regarding safety information.
  • Conducting accident investigations involving employees, general public, cooperative vehicles, and cooperative equipment. Ensuring the filing of appropriate claims, reports, and records as required by law and cooperative policy.
  • Assisting with the administration of the drug and alcohol program in cooperation with other Human Resources personnel.
  • Coordinates DOT licensing and DOT physical examination program.
  • Coordinates with Safety Teams in preparation and administration of building safety programs and policies for the cooperative.
  • Prepares written monthly report on safety performance status as requested.
  • Maintains all records relating to the safety program of the cooperative.
  • Considered an on-call employee in the event of serious accidents involving damage and/or injury.
  • Responsible for knowing and complying with safety rules, procedures, safety policies, and bulletins.
  • Responsible for coordination and/or investigation of all accidents, which may include vehicle accidents, employee accidents, electrical contacts, and any other incident which may be a "near-miss" or require further investigation.
  • Responsible for Hazardous Communications program, including maintenance of MSDS.
  • Responsible for supervision of CDL testing; including random drug tests, driver training and licensing, medical physicals, and other pertinent training. Responsible for periodic review of daily and monthly vehicle reports to assure compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Administer the CPR and first aid programs.
  • Assists with the administration of the Safety Incentive Program.
  • Conducts facility inspections and job-site visits with maintenance and construction crews to monitor and report improper compliance with safety procedures. Documents and reports any safety violations.
  • Maintains industry contacts to stay better informed on safety equipment and proper use.
  • Coordinates the Cooperative’s tool and personal protective equipment program.
  • Maintains all safety records required by regulatory agencies, including OSHA logs.
  • Develop a yearly calendar of safety and training programs.
  • Keeps training records current on all NAEC employees and available to all departments.
  • Coordinates the Apprentice Line Tech Program, in cooperation with the Vice President of Operations.

  • Schedules and conducts all safety drills such as tornado, fire, active shooter drills on a bi-annual or annual basis.

in the identification of safety hazards in the areas in which we deploy contractors and the safety training for those contractors.

  • Coordinates with Federated on annual safety audit of facilities.
  • Maintains all eye wash stations located in each of our facilities and substations.
  • Maintains all safety signage at each facility and substation.
  • Oversees the safety devices/controls such as panic button, remote door locks, etc. in each location.
  • Manages fire extinguisher program including monthly inspections and annual replacements.
  • Enters monthly substation readings.
  • Coordinates the purchase of all employee uniforms including FR clothing. Education/Experience High school diploma and five to seven years related work experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) required. Additional education, certifications, and/or training in electric utility operation, safety, related regulations, and right-of-way fields are highly desirable. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Must be able to work with all cooperative employees in the best interest of the Cooperative.
  • Must be able to read and write programs to cover the needs of safety for all employees, customers, and the general public.
  • Basic computer skills are required. Strong computer skills are preferred.
  • Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be able to work well with diversified groups as well as individuals.
  • This position also requires basic technical utility knowledge, skills, and the ability to effectively read and follow operations and safety manuals.
  • Must have the ability to communicate with employees and the public and work with people to solve problems.
  • Must be able to assist the Safety & Training Manager to manage and direct all areas of the Cooperative's training and safety program.
  • The ability to speak effectively before large groups is required.
  • Reading, writing, and record keeping skills are required.
  • Must be able to communicate and interact with all personnel at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to consistently and fairly enforce the safety rules of the Cooperative.
  • Should establish and maintain good working relationships with training and safety personnel at other cooperatives, utilities, and other industrial and business firms.
  • Must be able to become certified as an instructor in first aid, CPR, and defensive driving, and possess the skills necessary to effectively provide courses on these subjects.
  • Must be able to work with employee Safety Teams and listen to and act on individual employee suggestions and criticisms.
  • Should have good working knowledge of RUS specifications, National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code, OSHA Rules and Regulations and all Cooperative policies and procedures and Service Rules and Regulations and Rates. Supervisory Responsibilities None Physical Demands/Working Conditions General office conditions with irregular hours as deemed necessary by the position. Good dexterity to operate various pieces of equipment, including computer equipment. Requires the physical ability of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, grasping, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and defined light work.
