• Civil Construction and Environmental Engineering Appointment Type: Faculty Job Description: Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at Iowa State University invites applications for one or more part-time Lecturer positions to teach sophomore-level courses that introduce students to building construction materials, methods, and mechanical and electrical systems. These in-person courses emphasize plan reading and quantity takeoff techniques. The Individual(s) appointed would be responsible for coordinating and teaching one section of ConE 2410, Constructions Materials and Methods (3 credits), and one section of ConE 2510, Mechanical/Electrical Materials and Methods (1 credit). This would involve preparing lecture notes, attending class and delivering lectures, being available to meet with students when lectures and labs are delivered, preparing and grading homework, lab assignments, quizzes, exams, and projects for the classes, and working with other faculty as needed. Grading support may be available based on availability of resources and class size. In total, this position is 1/3 (.33) full-time equivalent of a 9-month position, or depending on applicant qualifications, one lecturer may teach ConE 2410 at (.25) FTE and one lecturer may teach ConE 2510 at (.08) FTE. The initial term would be for one semester with potential for renewal. Lecturers can transition into a Term faculty position. Lecturers and Term Faculty members are not eligible for tenure, but Term Faculty do have potential to be reviewed for advancement. Candidates are expected to have an excellent record of achievement in teaching or engineering practice in construction or civil engineering or a closely related discipline. They are expected to exhibit excellent communication skills and share in our commitment to achieving excellence through Iowa State's Principles of Community. Required Minimum Qualifications: Candidates for this position must hold a Bachelor's degree in construction, civil, or architectural engineering, or a related engineering degree plus 5 years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications:
• Industry experience related to the position.
• Previous teaching experience.
• Strong communication skills.
• Professional engineering licensure in the United States, or the ability to become licensed. Department/Program & College Description: The CCEE Department offers B.S. degree programs in civil engineering, civil engineering with environmental emphasis, construction engineering, and environmental engineering, plus M.S., MEng, and Ph.D. graduate degree programs in civil engineering and maintains externally funded research of more that $18 million annually.
