The Stress Engineer will own structural analysis methods, sizing substantiation and independent challenge of design concepts. The role supports aircraft development while building methods, evidence, and reusable capability for broader Advanced Systems teams. This position will be based onsite at our South Burlington, VT office location, our Raleigh, NC office. Remote candidates may be considered for a hybrid role, with monthly visits to South Burlington, VT for in person work. How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
- Performs global and local analysis, defines allowables and margins, evaluates joints and stability, and documents assumptions and limitations
- Coordinate with Structures Design; Loads; Dynamics; M&P; Composites
- Produce and maintain Analysis plans; FEMs; sizing reports; margin summaries; risk items
- Support the Program Director / Chief Engineer by provides independent evidence that design load paths and sizing are credible
- Document assumptions, interfaces, decisions, risks, and verification needs in configuration-controlled engineering records
- Communicate status, unresolved issues, and recommended actions clearly in technical and program reviews Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, civil/structural engineering, or a related engineering discipline; 0–3 years of relevant experience. Relevant internships, research, design-team work, or substantial academic projects may satisfy the experience expectation
- Working knowledge of statics, mechanics of materials, structural load paths, stress/strain, margins of safety, and linear finite-element analysis. Able to construct or check basic models, document loads and boundary conditions, assess results for reasonableness, and communicate assumptions and limitations. Familiarity with metallic and composite aircraft structures and at least one commercial FEA or pre/post-processing environment
- Coursework, internship, research, or project evidence using NASTRAN/FEMAP, Patran, Abaqus, ANSYS, HyperMesh, or an equivalent tool. Evidence may include a technical report, analysis portfolio, design-team substantiation package, or documented correlation/checking exercise
- Ability to communicate technical assumptions, limitations, risks, and recommendations clearly and work effectively across disciplines
- Must be a US Person to be considered for the role Above and Beyond Qualifications:
- Experience supporting a new aircraft, transport-category aircraft, or another safety-critical complex product
- Experience taking work from concept through design review, build, integration, test, or certification evidence
- Experience improving engineering methods, automation, data quality, or cross-functional execution Physical Demands and Work Environment: This role requires extended computer work and regular access to office, laboratory, manufacturing, hangar, and structural-test environments. Occasional travel and use of standard personal protective equipment may be required. The wage listed here reflects our best faith estimate for this role. We pay competitively and base compensation on a variety of factors including skills, experience, industry background, and the evolving needs of the role.
