Summary You will serve as a
Supervisory Nuclear Mechanical Assessment Coordinator
in the Production Department Analysis & Business Manager (Code 900A), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900), of
Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
Duties
- You will provide direct first-line supervisory direction, technical guidance, and performance management to a multidisciplinary team of mechanical assessors and trade specialists.
- You will plan and coordinate assessment programs evaluating the technical adequacy, procedural compliance, and quality of nuclear mechanical overhaul and testing operations across Code 930 shops.
- You will lead continuous process improvement (CPI) initiatives by analyzing cumulative quality data and deficiency reports to isolate systemic root causes and implement standardized corrective actions.
- You will serve as a principal technical liaison between production shops (Shops 38 and 41), engineering codes, quality assurance departments, and shipboard military personnel Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: * Coordinating mechanical overhaul, repair, and testing operations on nuclear-powered vessel systems or auxiliary machinery within a shipyard environment, applying trade practices across inside/outside machine shops in compliance with nuclear technical work documents. * Troubleshooting and resolving mechanical and maintenance discrepancies on shipboard systems in direct technical coordination with Ship's Force, engineering codes, and production managers. * Conducting quality assurance assessments, process audits, and failure evaluations on complex mechanical components using blueprints, NAVSEA specifications, and precision measurement data. * Analyzing cumulative maintenance, audit, and inspection deficiency data across shipyard codes to identify failure trends, isolate root causes, and recommend continuous process improvement initiatives. *Interpreting and developing standard operating procedures, technical directives, and training curricula to instruct journey-level trade mechanics and ensure strict procedural compliance. *Applying project control techniques (workflow, schedule milestones, and quality controls) to execute naval repair availabilities while directing the daily work of Federal Wage System (FWS) and General Schedule (GS) personnel.
