Lead Fleet Mechanic

Lead Fleet Mechanic | Evening Shift Join a Growing Team Mustang Transportation is growing fast, and keeping our fleet safe, reliable, and road-ready is critical to our success. We are building an all-new shop to support our expanding operation and are looking for an experienced Lead Fleet Mechanic to take ownership of our evening maintenance operations. This is a hands-on leadership position for a skilled mechanic who can diagnose and repair complex issues, prioritize maintenance needs, support Maintenance Technicians, and make sound decisions when working independently. The Lead Fleet Mechanic will play a key role in keeping our buses and support vehicles ready for service throughout the evening and will serve as the primary maintenance point of contact for the shift. • Lead evening-shift maintenance operations and ensure vehicles are safe, reliable, and ready for service.
• Inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair buses, motor coaches, and support vehicles.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and performance issues and determine the appropriate course of repair.
• Perform and oversee preventative maintenance, including oil changes, filter service, fluid services, brake inspections, tire maintenance, and scheduled servicing.
• Perform complex repairs involving diesel engines, air brake systems, suspension, steering, HVAC, electrical systems, and related equipment.
• Provide direction, assistance, and technical support to Maintenance Technicians working on the evening shift.
• Prioritize repairs and maintenance needs based on vehicle condition, operational requirements, and safety.
• Coordinate with drivers, dispatchers, and operations personnel to address vehicle issues and ensure equipment is available for scheduled routes.
• Conduct vehicle inspections and identify potential issues before they become major repairs or cause service interruptions.
• Respond to breakdowns and urgent maintenance issues and coordinate repairs as needed.
• Review completed work to ensure repairs are performed correctly and vehicles are safe to return to service.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, parts usage, and repair documentation.
• Communicate outstanding repairs, vehicle status, and maintenance concerns to management and the incoming shift.
• Help maintain parts, tools, equipment, and shop inventory.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Promote and enforce Mustang's safety and maintenance standards.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and assist with emergency maintenance needs when required. What We're Looking For
• Experienced diesel or fleet mechanic with strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience working with buses, motor coaches, commercial vehicles, trucks, or heavy equipment.
• Ability to independently diagnose problems and take ownership of repairs from diagnosis through completion.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, suspension, HVAC, and commercial vehicle components.
• Ability to lead and support other mechanics in a professional, team-oriented environment.
• Strong judgment and ability to prioritize repairs in a fast-paced operation.
• Familiarity with diagnostic software, electronic troubleshooting tools, and modern vehicle systems.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship and safety.
• Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.
• Professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with drivers, dispatchers, operations, and management.
• Ability to work independently during evening hours and make appropriate maintenance decisions when management is not immediately available.
• Willingness to support a growing operation and help develop maintenance processes and standards.
• Available to participate in an on-call rotation when necessary. Preferred Qualifications
• Class B or higher CDL with air brake and passenger endorsements.
• Previous bus, motor coach, school bus, or commercial fleet experience.
• ASE certifications or equivalent experience.
• Experience leading or mentoring mechanics or maintenance technicians.
• Experience with fleet preventative maintenance programs.
• Experience with electronic maintenance and work-order systems. Schedule Evening Shift | Full-Time, Year-Round This position is primarily responsible for evening maintenance operations and requires flexibility to support a 24/7 transportation operation.
