Overview: The Production Member (Extrusion Area) is a hands-on production role responsible for supporting material flow throughout the Extrusion Department. Production Members are cross-trained to work in multiple assignments, including shredder and scrap handling, resin and material monitoring at the back of the extrusion lines, and finished sheet handling at the front of the lines. This position requires the safe and frequent use of a forklift/hilo, attention to material levels and process conditions, and the ability to work independently while supporting Operators, Team Leaders and other team members. Production Members also assist with the line startup and shutdown, complete required material and inventory transactions, and maintain clean and organized work areas. Key Responsibilities: (including but not limited to) 1. Safety and Compliance · Follow all safety requirements, traffic patterns, pedestrian pathways, PPE standards, and equipment procedures. · Recognize pinch points, crush zones, hot surfaces, moving equipment, and other material handling hazards. · Complete required forklift/hilo inspections and operate material handling equipment safely. · Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, spills, and material handling concerns immediately. 2. Shredder Operation & Scrap Handling · Drive a forklift/hilo throughout the plant to routinely collect process scrap from the Vacuum Forming Department and other designated locations. · Transport scrap to the shredder area and identify acceptable scrap versus contaminated material containing labels, cardboard, or other foreign objects. · Operate and monitor the shredder, displays, bins, and material flow equipment, including required changes between surge bins and boxes. · Weigh, label, transact, and move regrind to the appropriate storage or processing area. 3. Material Monitoring & Transfer · Monitor resin flow, silo levels, visual indicators, alarms, and equipment conditions to ensure each extruder receives the correct material without interruption. · Respond to low material levels or interrupted flow and communicate concerns to the Operator or Team Leader before production is affected. · Understand the material transfer path from railcar and silo systems to the extrusion lines and support material routing as assigned. 4. Finished Sheet Handling · Collect finished sheet packs from the front of the extrusion lines, then weigh, label, band, and secure them using the correct pallets and supplies. · Complete inventory transactions using the required scanner or system and move sheet packs to the sheet supermarket, warehouse, or shipping area. · Maintain FIFO and proper separation of sheet by product, destination, and status. · Perform special sheet-handling tasks, including sheet inversion, when required by the production process. 5. 5S & Continuous Improvement · Maintain 5S standards and complete assigned cleaning, inspection, and basic preventive-maintenance tasks in all assigned Extrusion areas. · Support problem solving and improvement activities related to safety, material flow, scrap, downtime, and workplace organization. · Perform other duties as assigned to support safe and efficient Extrusion operations. Qualifications & Requirements: · High School Diploma or equivalent · Previous manufacturing experience preferred; plastics or extrusion experience is a plus. · Must be willing and able to operate a forklift/hilo. Previous experience is preferred but not required; company training and qualification will be provided. · Ability to work independently, manage routine assignments, and communicate effectively with others. · Ability to read labels, inventory information, monitors, and visual material flow indicators. · Mechanical and process aptitude with a willingness to learn multiple Production Member roles within the Extrusion Department. · Ability to follow standard work, complete required documentation, and use a handheld scanner or other inventory system. Must be able to: · Regularly stand, walk, bend, reach, twist, push, pull and work above and below waist level throughout the shift. · Frequently climb on and off a forklift/hilo throughout the workday. · Frequently lift, push, and pull up to 25 lbs. and occasionally up to 60 lbs, including changing a forklift propane tank when required. · Use hands to handle material, apply banding and labels, and operate equipment controls and scanners. · Work around hot surfaces, moving equipment, forklifts, and high-noise manufacturing environments while using required hearing protection and other PPE. · Work daily overtime and weekend support as dictated by the production schedule.
