Summary About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states

  • Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. For more information on Red River Army Depot, go to the following web site: www.redriver.army.mil Duties
  • Fabricate door frames and covers with sheet metal.
  • Assemble and set up parts to be welded for repair or maintenance.
  • Apply shop mathematics to determine dimensions and figure irregular curves, angles and pitch.
  • Determine welding techniques and machine settings to be utilized for maintenance and repairs.
  • Utilize soldering, spot welding, electric welding or acetylene welding to assemble fabricated parts.
  • Utilize blueprints, work orders and specifications to perform maintenance, fabrication or repairs on sheet metal projects.
  • Devise templates and patterns having curved edges or irregular shapes for the purpose of constructing and assembling objects. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Sheet Metal Mechanic without more than normal supervision which includes 1) interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and work orders to perform maintenance or repairs to metal; 2) determines the proper techniques, materials, machines, and parts that are required for repair or maintenance of sheet meal; 3) lay out and cut sheet metal materials for various shapes, accounting for seams, joints, laps, and shrinkage; AND 4) bend and form metal parts into required shapes using hand or power tools and equipment.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal Work Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (Includes Constructing, Repair, and Forging) Layout and Pattern Development (Includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation) Physical Effort: Works from ladders, scaffolding, rooftops and platforms, in tiring and uncomfortable positions, or where parts or assemblies are in hard to reach places. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, and climbs. Lifts items weighing up to 60 pounds. Working Conditions: Works both inside, in well heated, lighted, and ventilated areas, and outside in varied weather, hot, cold and wet. Exposed to dirt, dust, grease, fumes, and noise and asbestos, and the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, scrapes, electrical shock, and falls from ladders, scaffolds, lifting equipment, rooftops, and etc. Wears protective clothing and equipment when required. Education Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
