Job Category: Academic Staff Employment Type: Regular Job Profile: Professor of Practice Job Summary: CAI is creating a new career services unit that will coach and champion CAI students from career exploration to launch and through lifelong growth. As jobs evolve, it is critical for student career support to keep pace with workplace expectations. The center staff will include both career advisors and professors of practice with recent work experience. The Director may also teach career-connected courses, providing an opportunity to develop and test educational approaches that connect academic learning with professional practice, such as capstones or other experiential courses. Candidates with recent professional experience, teaching experience in subjects relating to computer, data or information science, and/or career advising and counseling are encouraged to apply. Key Job Responsibilities:
- Assists in developing techniques and/or model programs for carrying out instructional goals in disciplinary area and may help identify ways in which new techniques could be of assistance
- Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
- Assists in defining the objectives of the program and play a major role in carrying out program duties
- Provides classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction including grading
- Supervises the day to day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
- Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy Department: UW-Madison, College of Computing and Artificial Intelligence, Academic Affairs Compensation: The minimum salary is $110,000, depending on qualifications and experience. - 1 year of teaching experience in higher education
- Master’s degree in a STEM discipline
- Recent (last 5 years) work in a professional position related to computing, data or information or recent close collaborations with people in such positions Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching courses relating to computing, data, or information science in higher education
