Summary Serve as a Physician-Critical Care with Rocky Mountain VA Medical Center, providing a full range of inpatient and outpatient care services. Mian focus will be on night coverage in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). May include patient care with or without trainees. This is an open continuous announcement. Duties Start, continue, or finish your career here | VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System DUTIES: Incumbent will be a member of the Medical Service and will participate in patient care, teaching and administrative activities as assigned. They will function as an independent physician provider, and they will provide medical care in the spectrum of their field of training and privileging and in all aspects of patient care including inpatient/outpatient care. The incumbent will be responsible for but not limited to the following duties: (1) Continue and further the development of the clinical programs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing evaluation and treatment for patients seen in the outpatient clinic, and inpatient services if assigned. (2) Providing patient care in the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System. Incumbent will attend in the outpatient clinic and on the inpatient service as assigned, and other clinical services needed by the Service (focusing on night coverage in the ICU). These clinical responsibilities may include patient care activities with or without trainees. (3) Supervise and teach medical students, interns and residents, and fellows. Participate in the educational activities of the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine. (4) Participate in Process Improvement/Quality Assurance projects and other administrative duties as assigned, including Section meetings. (5) Other Duties as assigned by the section Chief (6) Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in all clinical settings. (7) Evaluate and triage specialty consults. (8) Obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, recommend, order and evaluate appropriate laboratory testing, and plan and prescribe treatment for patients. (9) The incumbent will coordinate medical management and care within their discipline with Primary Care providers and other Medical/Surgical services and personnel in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system. (10) Provide on-call services as assigned, usually as part of a rotation with other section physicians. (11) Participate in monitoring the quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care, both at the Section and facility level. (12) Incumbent will perform administrative tasks as assigned, including, but not limited to peer reviews, Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE), special projects that help fulfill and/or enhance the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs as assigned by the Chief of Medicine/Chief of Staff/ELT. (13) Participate in the educational programs for section personnel as well as the medical staff. (14) Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA), in the list published for the year the residency, or fellowship if applicable, was completed; OR (2) One year of post medical school training (internship, first year of residency, or transitional year residency) approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of post-training independent practice (performing under a full and unrestricted license) in the United States; OR (3) Non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States (performing under a full and unrestricted license) performing duties related to the position they are applying for (United States fellowships would be creditable towards this requirement), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the Physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Exceptions: Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent basis.
