This position is located in the Accounts Payable Section of the DPS-Controller’s Office. The primary purpose of this position is to audit, process and manage departmental medical services and prescription RX purchases. As part of this task, the position must handle confidential information with discretion. This position must work with specific division contacts to reconcile payment data as well as perform trouble-shooting steps to resolve payment and account issues. Note that medical services and prescription RX purchases are mainly for juvenile delinquents. The employee in this position will consult with external vendors as well as specific division contacts to resolve any outstanding issues. The primary purpose of the Department of Public Safety Controller’s Office is to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Department policies and procedures to ensure that departmental financial data and funds are received, disbursed, recorded, and accounted for in accordance with all applicable State and Federal laws and regulations. The Controller’s Office at the agency level has oversight responsibility for the department and is accountable to the Office of the State Controller to preserve the integrity of that data. The Accounting Technician I is responsible for providing accurate accounts payable and disbursement processing services for general accounting invoices. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Reviewing and processing Direct Payment invoices and/or Purchase Order (PO-Matching) Numbered invoices
- Utilizing the NC E-Procurement System and the NCFS (North Carolina Financial System) to research, enter, and pay invoices for goods and services for all DPS positions
- Reconciling payment data and troubleshooting problems with payments and accounts
- Consulting with vendors and staff regarding account issues The employee in this position should have the ability to verify and ensure the accuracy and validity of Accounts Payable transactions; the ability to examine accounting records to ensure adherence to accounting standards and regulations; the ability to recognize and solve problems of moderate complexity on a proactive basis; the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of departmental staff; and the ability to explain and interpret financial information while responding to staff and vendors. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Range: $33,902.00 - $59,327.00 This is a full-time permanent position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits including paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays, retirement, and health insurance. - Experience in Accounts Payable
- Experience processing direct payment invoices and/ or purchase order (PO) numbered invoices and/or other invoice types
