Position Summary

The Wellness Department has an immediate opening for a qualified and innovative teacher of physical education, teaching four sections of middle school physical education. Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide clear instructional strategies and developmentally appropriate practices
• Collaborate with department colleagues curriculum
• Practice clear, timely, and professional communication with students, parents, and colleagues
• Attend regular department, faculty, and other meetings
• Ensure the safety of students by providing a clean and safe environment, appropriate supervision, safety instruction, regular facility and equipment inspection
• Serve as a role model in maintaining appropriate standards of care for students and maintaining healthy boundaries in student and professional relationships
• Committed to supporting and developing a diverse and inclusive community
• Perform other duties as assigned Requirements

Skills and Experience Required

• Undergraduate degree required
• Teaching experience at the middle school or high school level is preferred
• The ideal candidate will have substantial expertise in the field and will be:
• committed to developing both students’ understanding of physical education and fitness levels
• a student-centered educator, skilled in motivating students
• knowledgeable about adolescents’ physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development and willing to positively greet the challenges and opportunities they present
• a professional oral and written communicator
• eager to work collaboratively with colleagues on curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessments
• comfortable using technology in the class setting

Physical Requirements to Perform the Essential Functions

• Work is conducted primarily in an athletic environment / gymnasiums, fitness center and outdoor athletic venues
• Use fitness and athletic equipment
• Physical agility to frequently lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, stand, walk and reach overhead.
• Must be able to ascend and descend stairs
• Work in and exposed to outdoor weather elements
