- Support the development, seek alignment and steward the execution of EABL Uganda’s short and long-term Commercial Strategy in line with EABL Uganda ’s business strategy. Bringing pragmatic and well-rounded understanding to commercial strategic choices by ensuring alternatives are thoroughly evaluated and the optimum choices are made and then delivered against
- To be responsible for the commercial organization’s Order to Cash cycle (OTC) ensuring customer experience is delivered and orders are met OTIFNE (On Time In Full No Errors)
- Drive adoption of web ordering to make the OTC process simple and smooth.
- To drive robust planning processes with cross functional teams &the commercial organization to ensure that excellent forecasts, planning.
- To support the Sales Director in execution of the O&R and commercial IBOs while holding the Commercial Leadership Team CLT) and other business partners to account for delivery of their planned commitments.
- To work with the Commercial Director and CLT to find opportunities that drive value for the business. Turns identified business insights into action and facilitates the right process, including engagement of others to deliver or beat the plan.
- To work as a business partner for the CLT to deliver solutions to the “Highest Value at Stake” (HVAS) issues and opportunities confronting the business.
- Collaborate with commercial field sales, finance, logistics and Supply to ensure daily and monthly shipment revenues are met. Market/Function Complexity (In-country depth vs regional breath) Uganda Breweries Limited is a dominant player in the Total Beverage Alcohol business with 48-50% volume share of the beer market and ~65% value share of the spirit’s market. UBL operates in a very competitive environment that has seen new entrants such as Heineken and Pernod enter the alcohol industry. The nature of competitors is complex with both illegal and established players operating within a market that has regulatory challenges. The market situation is changing rapidly due to the economic situation, declining disposable income and opening up of the economic trading blocs allowing in flow of products from other markets. The trade is evolving and becoming more sophisticated especially at retail level. Retailers are becoming more demanding as they become more profit driven and as competitors fight for share. Consumers are becoming more sophisticated which requires more innovative ways of convincing LAD to choose our brands. All channels are important in distribution and availing our products to consumers. Trade partnerships are crucial in ensuring that service to consumers exceeds their expectations. The omni-channel is also growing fast. Roles & Responsibilities: This position has a strategic thought leadership and implementation role with responsibility over collaborating with cross-functional teams across EABL Uganda, while supporting the Uganda Commercial Director in implementing the Annual Operating Plan (AOP – Volume, NSV, GM & Operating profit)) and Commercial Strategic Agenda. Top Accountabilities Data, Governance and Analytics
- Design mechanisms to measure business performance critical metrics versus targets.
- Aggregate data to generate actionable insights that advance business objectives.
- Drive data quality, data integrity and governance of commercial systems and reporting platforms.
- Lead the Commercial Governance Calendar, ensuring timely execution of business reviews, governance forums, commercial audits and compliance assessments.
- Establish and track governance critical metrics, control effectiveness measures and compliance scorecards for the commercial organization.
- Ensure commercial decisions are supported by appropriate documentation, approvals and governance controls in line with delegated authority requirements. Stakeholder Management and Influencing
- Facilitate, lead and communicate key commercial critical initiatives in line with the AOP and Commercial Strategy.
- Ensure that CLT and business partner commitments are delivered.
- Ensure work requirements on confidential HVAS initiatives and transactions are met.
- Ensure identification, analysis and evaluation of transactions and projects that bring value for the commercial organization.
- Act as secretary and coordinator for key Commercial Leadership governance forums by tracking actions, decisions, risks and accountability commitments.
- Partner with Finance, Legal, Internal Controls, Risk and Compliance teams to ensure commercial initiatives align with corporate governance standards and regulatory requirements . Business Partnering & Change Management
- Participate, influence and add new value in business issues. Highlight and action potential opportunities and risks
- Constructively challenge and enhance value in key business areas through thorough planning, forecasting and valuation modelling.
- Provide independent governance challenge to commercial proposals, investments and critical initiatives to ensure risks, controls and compliance implications are fully considered before implementation.
- Lead remediation plans arising from audits, compliance reviews and control assessments within the commercial function. Commercial Performance and Governance Routines
- Define, cascade and embed performance routines and rhythms towards achieving targets.
- Mentor and develop others across the commercial organization.
- Align and upgrade capabilities to business agenda while building cross-functional team effectiveness.
- Lead monthly Commercial Governance Reviews to assess policy compliance, control effectiveness, risk management and execution of agreed actions.
- Ensure governance, compliance and controls are embedded within commercial performance routines and decision-making processes. Qualifications & Experience Required
- Business Degree level with strong academic record.
- 6-8 years FMCG experience, including significant experience in sales operations, business analytics, commercial excellence or business performance management.
- Good relationship management and interpersonal skills.
- Presentation, report writing and research skills.
- Multifaceted and creative with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong understanding of strategy development & Implementation, project & change management, corporate governance principles, risk management frameworks and internal control environments.
- Experience in driving compliance, commercial controls, policy implementation and governance routines within a complex FMCG or multinational environment.
- Knowledge of commercial audit requirements, delegated authority frameworks and business process controls.
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive accountability through governance forums and structured performance management processes.
- Understanding of regulatory, legal and compliance requirements impacting commercial operations within East Africa.
- Professional certification in Risk Management, Internal Controls, Governance, Compliance, Finance or Project Management (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIA, PMP) would be an added advantage.
