Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for medical positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: You will serve as Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Administrator and oversee all aspects of the

Ls Lims

program. Your work involves the use of a Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) LIMS and you will routinely interact with LS management and S6 network administrators. Duties

  • Manages LIMS data integrity and system performance in an ISO/IEC 17025 environment, including data evaluation, error investigation, and problem resolution.
  • Determines LIMS information requirements in consultation with management, generates reports, and coordinates IT support and user training.
  • Provides daily technical guidance to LIMS users and represents the laboratory's data management efforts at meetings and conferences. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Microbiologist (0403): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent.

Or B.

Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Requirement for Chemist (1320): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

Or B.

Combination of Education and Experience: Course work equivalent to a major in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Requirement for Physical Scientist (1301): A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

Or B.

Combination of education and experience: Education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) implementing and evaluating Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited environment; 2) ensuring data integrity through developing instrument transfer protocols and resolving data quality issues; 3) analyzing system requirements to resolve complex data reporting problems; AND 4) collaborating with laboratory and IT personnel to align system functionality with user requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
