Assembly Manager, Amazon Manufacturing Services

Amazon Manufacturing Services is an internal Amazon service specializing in the production of high-quality components through additive manufacturing (3D printing), CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, powder coating, and assembly. We serve design engineers, product developers, operations engineers, and retail product concept testing teams across Amazon. About the Role AMS seeks an Assembly Manager to lead our assembly and sub-assembly operations within our world-class manufacturing facility. You will own day-to-day execution on the assembly floor, supervise a team of assembly operators and sub-assembly technicians, and ensure builds go out complete, correct, and on time. Assembly is the last step before the customer sees the product, so this role owns the final quality gate for machined, fabricated, and 3D printed components as they come together into finished assemblies. This is a hands-on floor leadership role focused on daily execution, team development, and steady improvement to build quality and throughput. Key job responsibilities Assembly Operations

• Execute customer orders safely and successfully across assembly, sub-assembly, and final packout operations
• Manage daily work prioritization, station assignments, and labor allocation across assembly stations
• Balance work across stations to meet build rate, and adjust staffing and sequencing when priorities shift
• Track assembly metrics including throughput, build quality, on-time delivery, rework rate, and labor utilization
• Maintain assembly tooling, torque tools, lift assists, fixtures, and test equipment in working order, and escalate repairs
• Identify and implement process improvements at the station level to reduce build time, motion, and rework
• Coordinate with CNC machining, sheet metal, welding, powder coating, and additive teams to sequence incoming parts to the build schedule
• Support new product and new program introduction by piloting first builds, timing operations, and refining the build sequence before rate production Material Readiness and Kitting
• Verify kits, hardware, and purchased components are staged and complete before a build starts
• Identify shortages early and escalate to procurement and production planning before they stop a station
• Maintain point-of-use stocking of consumables and high-use hardware at assembly stations
• Verify build documentation matches the released bill of materials and flag discrepancies to engineering
• Manage staging, work-in-process, and finished-goods flow through the assembly area to keep the floor clear and organized Quality and Technical Excellence
• Ensure quality standards are met consistently on every assembly, and hold the line on the final inspection gate before shipment
• Troubleshoot build issues on the floor including fit-up problems, missing or incorrect hardware, damaged parts, and drawing ambiguity
• Verify torque-critical fastening is performed to specification and that torque tooling stays within calibration
• Perform or coordinate first-piece verification on new assemblies before releasing them to rate production
• Develop and document standard operating procedures and work instructions for assembly processes
• Support ISO 9001 compliance through proper documentation, records, and quality controls
• Manage the rework and repair loop, and feed root causes back to the upstream process rather than absorbing them in assembly
• Partner with quality engineers to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions People Leadership
• Lead, develop, and mentor assembly operators and sub-assembly technicians
• Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
• Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement
• Own ergonomics and safe manual material handling practices on the assembly floor, including proper use of lift assists and team lift procedures
• Build team capabilities through training, cross-training, and skill development so no station depends on a single person
• Manage interpersonal dynamics to drive team collaboration and output Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Provide input to the Subtractive Manufacturing Manager and production planning on assembly capacity, staffing needs, and tooling requirements
• Escalate constraints and schedule risk early with enough detail for others to act
• Coordinate with the Customer Success team on build status, timeline expectations, and assembly requirements
• Work with quality engineers on continuous improvement initiatives affecting assembly
• Partner with shipping and receiving on packout, protection, and shipment readiness of finished assemblies
• Collaborate with facilities and equipment management on workstation layout, tooling, and maintenance needs Basic qualifications
• 2+ years of hands-on mechanical or electromechanical assembly experience in a manufacturing environment
• 1+ years leading, supervising, or serving as lead for a production team
• Ability to read and build from engineering drawings, bills of materials, and written work instructions
• Working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and torque tooling
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot build and fit-up issues on the floor Preferred qualifications
• 4+ years of assembly experience, including sub-assembly and final assembly of multi-component products
• Experience in contract manufacturing or high-mix, low-volume production environments
• Experience standing up new assembly cells, stations, or lines
• Familiarity with line balancing, takt time, standard work, and cycle time measurement
• Lean manufacturing, 5S, and kaizen experience; Six Sigma Green Belt or similar process improvement certification
• Experience with torque-critical fastening and torque tool calibration control
• Experience with kitting, point-of-use material replenishment, and shortage management -
• Ability to interpret GD&T on assembly and weldment drawings -
• Experience with digital or paperless work instruction systems -
• Exposure to ergonomic risk assessment and manual material handling controls
• ISO 9001 quality management system experience

Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
