Position Overview: The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for leading daily maintenance operations across multiple MIL facilities. This is not a traditional office-based supervisory position. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who works side-by-side with maintenance technicians while coordinating and directing daily maintenance activities. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable troubleshooting equipment, performing repairs, leading projects, supervising personnel, and responding to emergencies. This position plays a critical role in maintaining facility infrastructure, utilities, production support equipment, and campus operations while ensuring a safe and productive work environment. Essential Job Responsibilities: Leadership & Team Development
- Provide daily leadership, direction, and support to maintenance technicians.
- Schedule and prioritize preventive maintenance, repairs, and project work.
- Train, coach, mentor, and develop maintenance personnel.
- Develop training plans and support cross-training initiatives within the maintenance team.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, and a strong safety culture.
- Assist with employee evaluations, hiring recommendations, and disciplinary actions.
- Foster continuous improvement and encourage proactive problem-solving throughout the department. Maintenance Performance & Reliability
- Own maintenance department performance metrics including preventive maintenance compliance, work order backlog, equipment uptime, and labor utilization.
- Monitor maintenance backlog and ensure resources are prioritized to address critical equipment, facility, and operational needs.
- Drive improvements in equipment reliability and reduction of unplanned downtime.
- Lead root cause investigations for recurring equipment failures and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Ensure CMMS accuracy including work orders, equipment history, PM completion, labor tracking, and maintenance documentation.
- Evaluate PM effectiveness and recommend improvements to maintenance strategies and procedures.
- Manage critical spare parts inventory and ensure readiness of parts required to support operations.
- Coordinate maintenance priorities with Operations to maximize equipment availability and minimize production interruptions. Hands-On Maintenance
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance alongside maintenance technicians.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, plumbing, HVAC, steam, and compressed air systems.
- Lead complex troubleshooting efforts and provide technical guidance to the maintenance team.
- Support production by minimizing downtime and ensuring rapid response to maintenance issues.
- Assist with equipment installations, machinery upgrades, facility modifications, and capital improvement projects.
- Serve as a technical resource for resolving equipment and facility-related issues. Facility & Campus Support
- Oversee maintenance activities throughout the company's manufacturing campus.
- Monitor facility infrastructure including electrical distribution, HVAC systems, plumbing, roofing, lighting, life-safety systems, and utility systems.
- Coordinate contractor activities and ensure work is completed safely and according to specifications.
- Support facility improvement projects and long-term maintenance initiatives.
- Ensure campus buildings, grounds, and supporting infrastructure remain safe, functional, and well-maintained. Safety & Compliance
- Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Lead by example and promote safe work practices throughout the maintenance department.
- Conduct routine facility and safety inspections.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and compliance records.
- Stop or suspend any work activity that presents an unsafe condition or risk to personnel, equipment, or facilities. The Working Maintenance Supervisor is authorized to:
- Prioritize and assign maintenance work based on operational needs, equipment criticality, and safety concerns.
- Direct maintenance personnel and allocate departmental resources.
- Coordinate and oversee contractors performing maintenance, repairs, and facility improvements.
- Make operational decisions during equipment failures and emergency situations requiring immediate action.
- Stop unsafe work and implement immediate corrective measures when necessary.
- Escalate significant maintenance, operational, staffing, or safety concerns to the Maintenance Manager. On-Call & Emergency Response
- This position serves as a key member of the maintenance leadership team and requires significant operational flexibility.
- Available to respond to equipment, facility, utility, and operational emergencies outside normal working hours as needed.
- Frequent overtime, weekend work, and after-hours support are expected as part of this role's leadership responsibilities.
- Respond to critical equipment failures, utility disruptions, weather-related events, and facility emergencies.
- Coordinate maintenance personnel and contractors during emergency situations.
- Provide leadership during off-shift and weekend maintenance activities.
- Must be capable of making sound decisions under pressure and responding effectively to operational challenges. Requirements Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Previous maintenance supervisory experience.
- Skilled trades certifications, apprenticeship training, or technical education.
- Experience coordinating contractors and capital improvement projects.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety practices.
- Experience supporting manufacturing operations in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and heavier loads with assistance.
- Frequent walking, climbing ladders, kneeling, crouching, and working in industrial environments.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely perform physical maintenance activities throughout the campus.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations outside normal business hours. Minimum Job Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in manufacturing, industrial, or facilities environment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills involving mechanical and electrical systems.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, compressed air, plumbing, steam, electrical distribution, and facility infrastructure.
- Experience with CMMS systems and preventive maintenance programs.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and equipment manuals.
- Must possess basic levels of mechanical ability.
