Description Position Summary: The Senior Excess & Surplus (E&S) Commercial Underwriter is responsible for evaluating, selecting, pricing, and managing complex excess and surplus (E&S) property risks that fall outside standard market appetites. This role focuses on underwriting highly customized solutions and requires deep technical underwriting expertise that includes commercial coastal residential or non-residential property, including lessor's risks and/or warehouses, as well as knowledge of commercial sprinkler system ratings and fire protection standards, as well as familiarity with Florida, Texas, and/or South Carolina property markets. Note: This is a hybrid position that requires attendance each Monday and Wednesday at our St. Petersburg, FL office. If based outside the Tampa Bay region, the incumbent will be required to be on site periodically. Requirements Typical Essential Duties:

  • Underwrites and evaluates E&S commercial property accounts, specializing in commercial coastal residential or non-residential exposures.
  • Assesses risks for lessor's risk, warehouse, and other specialty property segments.
  • Analyzes and interprets commercial sprinkler system ratings, fire protection requirements, and safety standards.
  • Develops and maintains broker and client relationships within target markets.
  • Applies best practices and compliance standards to underwriting processes.
  • Monitors market trends and regulatory updates relevant to E&S property in Florida and other states, including Texas, and South Carolina.
  • Assists in setting the underwriting direction of American Coastal Insurance Company in all states in which the company does business.
  • Contributes to the development, implementation, and monitoring of all underwriting rules, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Conducts renewal underwriting to ensure acceptability of risks and to improve the performance of the book of business.
  • Collaborates with Product Management on development of new products and programs.
  • Collaborates with Claims on resolution of coverage issues and adverse risk development.
  • Collaborates with Marketing to communicate company underwriting policies to the field.
  • Analyzes wholesaler book of business on semi-annual basis for potential profitability actions and reviews, communicates with Sales leaders.
  • Participates in cross-departmental projects, including audits and user acceptance testing.
  • Mentors and educates less-experienced underwriters and underwriting assistants.
  • Fosters a culture of innovation, transparency, and accountability within the department and between department and others in the organization.

Requirements and Competencies
  • Education/Licensure: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Professional designation/coursework (AIM, AINS, AU, AIC, ARM or CPCU) preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Commercial or E&S Commercial Property Underwriting. Experience underwriting lessor’s risks and/or warehouses, expertise with coastal property risks (commercial coastal residential or non-residential), and familiarity with Florida, Texas, and/or South Carolina markets preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of the Education and Experience requirements listed above.   • Microsoft Excel experience: intermediate skill level.
  • Strong understanding of insurance products, financials, policy systems and service requirements.
  • Effective use of office machinery such as photocopiers, printers, and scanners. Physical Requirements
