Health seeks an experienced Email Marketing Specialist responsible for the hands-on planning, development, execution and optimization of email communications for ASU Health and its four health academic units: the College of Health Solutions, Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation, John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering and School of Technology for Public Health. As an integral member of the Strategic Marketing and Communications shared services team, the Email Marketing Specialist supports email communications that advance the priorities of ASU Health and its academic units. Email is a critical communications channel across the organization, reaching prospective and current students, faculty, staff, alumni, partners and other key audiences. The position supports a broad portfolio of communications, including newsletters, leadership communications, internal communications, recruitment and enrollment campaigns, student retention communications, event communications, alumni engagement, advancement initiatives and institutional announcements. The specialist works collaboratively with communications, enrollment marketing, alumni engagement, events, social media, creative services, web and unit partners to ensure email communications are coordinated, audience-focused, accessible, measurable and aligned with ASU brand standards. The Email Marketing Specialist serves as the team’s technical expert for email marketing and communications, with hands-on responsibility for Salesforce Marketing Cloud, HTML email development, audience segmentation, list management, automated journeys, dynamic content, quality assurance, testing, analytics and reporting. The specialist uses data and industry best practices to continuously strengthen email performance and the audience experience across the shared services model. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Communications for ASU Health. Essential Duties:
- Use Salesforce Marketing Cloud to design, build, test, schedule and deploy mass and targeted email communications for ASU Health and the four health academic units, including newsletters, leadership and internal communications, institutional announcements and campaigns supporting events, advancement, recruitment, yield, student retention and alumni engagement.
- Partner with communications, enrollment marketing, alumni engagement, events, creative services, social media, web and other subject matter experts to establish email objectives and develop integrated strategies related to content, audiences, frequency, timing, personalization and segmentation that advance recruitment, engagement, retention, reputation and institutional priorities.
- Manage email communications supporting enrollment and yield objectives for academic programs, including campaigns for prospective, applicant and admitted student audiences.
- Support leadership and internal communications by building and deploying messages on behalf of deans and executive leaders to faculty, staff and other key audiences.
- Incorporate copy, graphics and other content developed independently or in collaboration with writers, designers and other members of the Strategic Marketing and Communications shared services team.
- Maintain, update and segment recipient lists and develop audience strategies that ensure data accuracy, improve relevance and personalization, reach intended audiences, and help manage communication frequency and duplication across units.
- Design emails and test communications across email clients, browsers and devices to ensure optimal functionality, accessibility and user experience while adhering to ASU brand standards and applicable university guidelines.
- Develop and manage automated email journeys and workflows using dynamic content, custom fields, segmentation and personalization to create relevant audience experiences.
- Manage the email quality assurance process before deployment, including reviewing links, subject lines, preheaders, sender profiles, personalization, dynamic content, audience selection, rendering, accessibility and mobile responsiveness.
- Coordinate email calendars across ASU Health and the four academic units to identify overlapping communications, manage timing and support a thoughtful audience experience.
- Establish, monitor and report key performance indicators for email communications, including delivery, engagement, click-through and conversion metrics, and translate results into actionable recommendations for communications, marketing and academic unit partners.
- Monitor email deliverability and emerging industry practices, technologies and trends, including AI integration, responsive design, personalization and automation, to identify opportunities to improve sender reputation, inbox placement, performance and the overall email program.
- Develop and maintain documentation, processes, templates and standards for email development, testing, deployment, measurement and optimization.
- Participate in university training and professional development, and share relevant practices, trends and recommendations with the Strategic Marketing and Communications team.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Desired Qualifications:
- Experience using Salesforce Marketing Cloud or a comparable enterprise email marketing and automation platform.
- Strong knowledge of HTML and CSS, including experience developing responsive HTML emails that follow current email development best practices, mobile optimization and accessibility standards.
- Hands-on experience managing the end-to-end email marketing and communications process, including planning, development, testing, deployment, measurement and optimization.
- Experience developing and managing automated email journeys, triggered communications, dynamic content and personalization.
- Experience with database concepts, audience management, querying, list management and segmentation.
- Experience developing newsletters, leadership and internal communications, enrollment campaigns, event communications, alumni communications or other institutional email campaigns.
- Experience using email and web analytics tools to monitor performance, assess outcomes and translate data into actionable recommendations.
- Knowledge of email deliverability, sender reputation and list-management best practices.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or comparable creative tools.
- Experience writing and editing content for digital communications and AI optimization.
- Knowledge of AP style and ASU brand standards.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, accuracy, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Working Environment:
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
