Learn more about CBP's mission, core values and careers at Duties The position is located within the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations. The position provides clerical support and acts as staff assistant to an office supervisor or senior manager. The purpose of the position is to provide administrative and clerical support to relieve the manager's workload and ensure the smooth operation of the immediate office and an extensive subordinate organization. This position starts at a salary of $61,722.00 (GS-09, Step 1) to $80,243.00 (GS-09, Step 10). Salary above excludes COLA. Major duties for this position include: Participating in providing administrative guidance and assistance to subordinate organizations by answering technical questions on financial and organizational-oriented procedures. Analyzing operational trends and compiles data for analysis by top-level managers. Preparing and/or reviewing all correspondence written for the manager including letters, memoranda, reports, charts, briefing materials, and talking points. Managing sensitive management referrals that are remanded for resolution; coordinates with the other managers and sets suspense dates. Coordinating all labor-management meetings for grievances and oral replies and takes notes during these proceedings for the manager. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing administrative support to senior management performing tasks such as managing schedules, screening calls and visitors, coordinating meetings and travel, prioritizing requests, tracking deadlines, and independently determining which matters require the manager's attention. Preparing, reviewing, and editing correspondence and briefing materials for management related to administrative projects and programs. Analyzing current internal administrative policies, procedures and processes to recommend changes that will improve efficiency and effectiveness. Education Substitution: ?Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in any field, or a L.L.B. or J.D. for the experience required at the GS-9 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours. You are required to submit proof of your claim. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11.
