USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub app Internal Candidates Identified The Research Staff (Hourly) position provides general research support for projects in the Translational Augmentative and Alternative Communication Data Sciences (TADS) Laboratory within the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of New Hampshire. Research activities may involve augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), language and communication, behavioral research, technology-based research, and other related areas. The specific assignments and responsibilities of the position may vary depending on the needs and activities of individual research projects. Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator or designated project staff, the employee supports research activities that may include participant-facing activities, data collection and management, preparation of study materials and equipment, and general laboratory and project operations. The position requires careful adherence to applicable study protocols, confidentiality requirements, and established research procedures. This is an hourly position and is not considered essential staff. Duties/Responsibilities: Research Data Collection and Participant Support
- Assist with implementation of research protocols and participant visits.
- Prepare study materials, technology, and research equipment for data-collection sessions.
- Support administration of research tasks, assessments, and experimental procedures as trained.
- Communicate with research participants regarding study logistics as assigned.
- Accurately document study activities and follow approved study procedures. Data Management and Research Support
- Enter, organize, code, and conduct quality checks of research data.
- Assist with transcription, annotation, scoring, or preparation of behavioral, communication, audio/video, or device-generated data.
- Maintain organized study records, files, and project documentation.
- Follow laboratory procedures for secure data handling, participant confidentiality, and data documentation. Laboratory and Project Operations
- Assist with setup, testing, inventory, and routine maintenance of research equipment and materials.
- Support literature searches, preparation of research materials, and other project-related activities.
- Participate in research team meetings and required training.
- Perform other research support duties consistent with the scope of the position. Requirements: Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience :
- Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Experience may include research, clinical, educational, laboratory, data-management, technology, or other work requiring careful attention to procedures and documentation. Other Requirements:
- Must complete required university and study-specific training before independently performing assigned research activities. Some assignments may require working with research participants, audio/video recordings, AAC devices, computers, or other research equipment. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail .
- Ability to follow research protocols, written procedures, and supervisor instructions accurately.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle research information responsibly.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact professionally with research participants and team members.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, manage assigned tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn research software, data-management systems, and study-specific technologies.
- Ability to identify questions or problems and communicate them promptly to project supervisors. Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or coursework in communication sciences and disorders, speech-language pathology, psychology, neuroscience, education, health sciences, computer/data science, or a related field.
- Prior research experience, including human-subjects research.
- Experience working with individuals with communication disabilities or familiarity with AAC.
- Experience with research data collection, transcription/coding, data management, or research technology.
